Empire Reveals New Image With Captain Phasma!

Captain PhasmaEmpire’s upcoming issue focused on Star Wars: The Force Awakens is just around the corner. The latest tease about what to expect from the issue is a new photo with Gwendoline Christie’s character Captain Phasma.

From Empire:

We don’t know where Phasma sits on the evil scale between Domhnall Gleeson’s General Hux and Andy Serkis’ Supreme Leader Snoke or how much screen time she will have, but in terms of scoring cool points, Phasma is head and shiny shoulders above the competition.

For an in-depth interview with Christie and more Star Wars snippets, be sure to pick up our Force Awakens special which hits shelves on November 26. The Force Awakens flies into UK cinemas on December 17 and US screens the next day.

You know. we’ve only seen her walk about, never any action or without her helmet (for all we know, she may never take it off).

I have a feeling her role in TFA will be very small and expanded with VIII and IX.

well yeagh, JJ confirmed she was just a regular trooper en only bumped up her screentime when they seen some concept art of a chrome trooper. I think she will be like Cody in Ep 3 or Ric Olie in Ep 1. She will not be the new Jango or Boba.

You don’t hire an actress like Gwendoline to play a bit role like Cody was in 3.

sure thats why they hired Temuara Morrison to play Cody/Jango , one of thé best actors from new zealand ( check “once where warriors”, “what becomes of the broken hearted” and “river queen” Im sure thats also the reason they hired legendary cult actor Terence Stamp to play Valorum in Ep 1.

Before this year, her only movie credits were “Classy Shopper 2” and “Woman in a Street Commercial”. Gwendoline Christie is EXACTLY the kind of actress you’d hire for a bit role.

So what? Gwendoline Christie has been a regular in Game of Thrones since 2012. That’s why she got the gig in SW: Game of Thrones is becoming as popular as SW nowadays.

About what? How Gwendoline Christie’s career will turn out over the next 40 years?

Don’t get confused, kid. That’s the topic of conversation here: Gwendoline Christie’s track record as an actress, not if this story or that story will be more popular in 40, 100, 1000 years from now.

She had a supporting role in a show that spawns dozens of regulars. If people who spent ten years in a main cast, like Friends actors, all fell into oblivion, except for Jennifer Aniston, imagine a bit player in an HBO series.

In 40 years we can talk if Game Of Thrones rivals Star Wars popularity. Because Star Wars has been going strong for 4 decades.

Lol, what? Brienne of Tarth is no supporting character. George R.R. Martin doesn’t write chapters from his supporting characters’ POVs. As an avid reader of his work I know this for a fact, believe me 😉

As for SW still going strong, I know. I was there from the very beginning, watching ANH when it came out when I was 7. Fortunately this isn’t like sports, where you have to root for this or that team to win. And I for one I’m very glad to be able to enjoy my SW films and my ASoIaF books all the same.

Besides, I don’t care how big of a name Gwendoline Christie is or how much screen time her character will get in TFA. The point is that steve00020 conveniently seemed to forget all about GoT when he mentioned Christie’s track record as an actress.

No, he said he made her character specifically for the armor. She does have a military rank of Captain. So I guess it just depends on what “regular” means to you.

PS Cody SHOULD have been PT’s Boba Fett.
I think the fact that you got a clone badass who has a speaking role who ISN’T in a SINGLE fight-scene is BULLSHIT. boba Fett wasn’t in ESB to give exposition – he was there to DO stuff.

Cody never DID anything, he just acted “military” and explained the plot.
      Total ripoff.

That’s why I’m looking forward to Phasma’s character.

I’m pretty sure we won’t see that much of Captain Phasma in ep 7. The role was non existent at first. They created it because it looked so cool. I think Phasma will just be a “cool presence factor” in TFA. Won’t be anything deep.

I see major influences here from the original ‘Battlestar Galactica’ with Phasma and Cylons. I see Ralph McQuarries influence from the Battlestar Galactica/Star Wars period and the Force Awakens homage to Ralphs unused concept work. The cylons added a great look to the original Battlestar, I think Phasma will be great.

The concept art could have been but it’s already been mentioned that the character is based off of an employee’s drawing of a stormtrooper in medieval looking armor. Just drew it for fun, put it up at their desk or whatever and Kathleen Kennedy or JJ saw it and loved it so they created a character for it

you MAY or may not be right. The flamethrower is CGI for sure. The VFX company ‘The Embassy’ sis all the CGI for the mk.1 scenes. There is a VFX doc that shows a lot of the shots they did, and then on their VFX reel, they show different shots as well. Most of the scenes where the mk.1 is moving/walking are CGI.

I know for a fact the flamethrower scene rught before that shot was CGI. (it is in the VFX reel, and the VFX behind the scenes).

you mean the Mark II and Mark III? there were some actual suits built for certain scenes, and sometimes RDJ just wore half a suit, and the bottom was CGI, and sometimes you just wore a helmet piece, and all the rest was CGI (mainly when you see his face, then the helmet closes). and then some is just all CGI.

The mark I (which you pictured) had many full CGI shots.

            (go to 3:10)

            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WUBXmEWudnA

The reason i can’t pinpoint if THAT scene you pictured is CGI or not is because it isn’t shown in this, or the VFX reel on ‘The Embassy’ site. However, both show scenes the other doesn’t show, meaning, neither show all, so the ommition of that shot doesn’t mean it wasn’t CGI. but the look, and the fact that it uses CGI flamethrowing, leads me to believe it is CGI.

Oh, no doubt. There were times when Favreau (the director) would look at a shot and go to the cgi guys and say “Can you guys clean this up. it looks too ‘CGI’ to me”. and they would tell him “Well.. that is a live action shot…” lol

So even HE couldn’t tell what was real or not sometimes 😛

It would be cool if they made her a Mandolorean as a nod to the Fetts without doing something stupid like making her Boba’s daughter or something. That would totally make sense from what we know of them seeing as how they are a warrior culture with female soldiers who wear elaborate armor.
