2016 LEGO Star Wars Sets Leaked – New Ship From The Force Awakens?

Eight LEGO Star Wars sets scheduled for release in 2016 have leaked from Eurobricks, and one of which is most likely tied to The Force Awakens

BrickSaber15 from Reddit lists the following names corresponding to the images in question:

  • 75133 Rebel Battle Pack https://a248.e.akamai.net/cache.lego.com/images/shop/prod/75133-0000-xx-12-1.jpg 75134
  • Empire Battle Pack https://a248.e.akamai.net/cache.lego.com/images/shop/prod/75134-0000-xx-12-1.jpg 75135
  • Obi-Wan’s Jedi Starfighter https://a248.e.akamai.net/cache.lego.com/images/shop/prod/75135-0000-xx-12-1.jpg 75137
  • Carbon Freezing Chamber https://a248.e.akamai.net/cache.lego.com/images/shop/prod/75137-0000-xx-12-1.jpg 75138
  • Hoth Attack https://a248.e.akamai.net/cache.lego.com/images/shop/prod/75138-0000-xx-12-1.jpg 75140
  • {Unnamed} https://a248.e.akamai.net/cache.lego.com/images/shop/prod/75140-0000-xx-12-1.jpg 75141
  • Kanan’s Speeder Bike https://a248.e.akamai.net/cache.lego.com/images/shop/prod/75141-0000-xx-12-1.jpg 75142
  • Homing Spider Droid https://a248.e.akamai.net/cache.lego.com/images/shop/prod/75142-0000-xx-12-1.jpg

The sixth, unnamed LEGO set, which seems to be tied to The Force Awakens itself, does not include anything particularly spoileriffic; however, there’s what appears to be a familiar face among the minifigures present. For those who are faint of heart regarding spoilers, the image – and commentary on it – will be saved for last out of courtesy. (Everything else is in order.)

LEGO 1

LEGO 2

LEGO 3

LEGO 4

LEGO 5

LEGO 7

LEGO 8

The two “Battle Packs” seem to be based on Battlefront characters, while everything else is either based on the movies or on Rebels.

And last, but not least, here’s the set for what appears to be a new ship from The Force Awakens:

LEGO 6

So it appears that we have what appears to be the successor to the B-wing in this particular image. The pilot near the edge of the photo look like Hasbro’s Resistance pilot action figure, which is one of three key reasons why I think this is a tie-in to the movie. Another reason is that the alien in this picture looks like Admiral Ackbar, and the last reason is the lady in the middle – who looks like a dead ringer for General Leia, if the behind-the-scenes reel from a few months ago is of any indication.

56 Leia

Am I the only one who thinks many new ships have very weird designs? In general, in Star Wars you can understand a ship very easily, but when I look, for instance, to the new star destroyer, I just don’t get its shape. Same for Kylo Ren ship. This new “kind of b-wing”, despite being a lego, has a pretty weird cockpit IMO.

Just gave me an idea. How about if we take a bunch of Star Destroyers and merge them all into one Monster Destroyer? Kinda like Voltron? As one big ship, it can do enormous destruction and then separate to fight multiple smaller threats.

Derth, everytime I see this star destroyer, I feel like the picture is deformed, streched out. It looks weird to me. About the B-wing, I need to see the film version to be sure.

You’re clearly not the only one. I haven’t seen a Force Awakens design yet that looks even reasonably cool, besides maybe Rey’s speeder. I think the absence of George Lucas will be felt most in his keen eye for picking out the best of industrial design from the concept art he was shown. If only he’d have gotten other people to write his dialogue in the prequels…

I agree about the designs. They seem over-engineered. Maybe they have been designed by bureaucrats, or just as bad, a committee. These seem to be clunkier as time progresses, rather than streamlined and elegent.

i get what u saying but i try to compare it with the evolution in car designs , if the prequels where 1930-1940 era car designs , the classics where 1950–1960 era car designs then the new trilogy should be bulky ugly 1980-1990 era car designs.

Fair enough but they’re not cool looking enough to buy the toys of. At least the prequels gave us some great designs.

There is something strange with the new vehicles… I hope the designers haven’t been forced to maintain similarity with the old trilogy in EVERY single object of the movie! Anyway… at the moment, the best ship from TFA is the Kylo Ren’s shuttle, followed by Rey’s speeder, which I think is the happiest example of a “new-old” design.

Hope Lucasfilm will enforce the same philosophy from the New Trilogy: old design in TFA; some mixed design in Ep.8; a new-era design in Ep.9.

Same here. I wonder if it flys vertically like the B-wing.

It would be good to see the original B-wings too, they didn’t get enough air time in ROTJ.

I know man they did not get anuff air time at all they are so cool looking. Such a unique design.

They were just glimpsed at in the OT. Then the “X-Wing vs TIE Fighter” game reintroduced them to their glory. Then the digital enhanced version of ROTJ added full and new B-Wing scenes. But still, they werent on display enough.

I agree. I thought the prequels lost that used universe feeling. And what happened to all those ships from sith?? Surely they’d be around 18 years later. thought it was a huge mistake. Sith should have had brand new xwings star destroyers etc. so then in ANH they would naturally be all old and banged up. The feeling of awakens seems to be a logic extension of Jedi. Although the storm troopers are no longer scary looking. itroopers. And they look like they’re wearing ray bans. I can’t not see that now.

Yeah, all the First Order stuff seems a little too much “New Order”, particularly the Star Destroyers – change for changes sake? I would have thought a Remnant on the run would be reusing old material (a lot like North Korea rolling out the old Soviet Era tanks and missle in their recent “show of power”). But of course that’s only my 2 cents…

The analogy is interesting, but I would think of the First Order less like a bit-player like North Korea and more like modern Russia– the Soviet Union was ‘defeated’ but it’s descendant is rising from the ashes and flexing it’s revitalized military/political influence to make a statement.

Hmm, I see your point. Depends upon what actually transpired between ROTJ and TFA though… maybe we’ll get to know more someday?

A lot of the work being released via novels and comic tie-ins is addressing the period so I wouldn’t be surprised if we know a lot more about the period before the movie even begins (or maybe within the opening crawl!)

Regarding the Russia analogy, the majority of current Russian equipment was originally designed (and even manufactured) during the Soviet era. So First Order should still probably be operating older stuff. On that note, their two seater TIE is a really silly concept. Yeah, let’s take a fighter that relies on maneuverability and has no shields and put TWO hard to train pilots in it, slowing it down just to enable a fixed rear tailgun.

i had always though that, too. And im not here to bash the prequels, but i always thought since the rebel ships were old in the ot, we’d get shiny new x wing and y wing fighters around the time of ROTS.

The slight arc of the new ship’s “thrust manifold” arouses one intriguing possibility: “Falcon pod.” Remember the concept art, so-named, almost immediately dismissed by all present as impossible? I suspect one of the “two thirds” secrets is the near-total destruction of the Falcon, excluding of course its escape craft, revealed first here — by accident? — as a Lego set.

    • October 12, 2015 at 1:30 am
      Permalink

Yeah, but the Falcon was a “modular” design, with many additions including the outrigger cockpit. Although not “canon”, it is “legend” so the availability of Falcon-like components appearing on other vehicles is not entirely unbelievable (then again “legend” has the Falcon being smashed into pieces and completely rebuilt). I can see what you’re getting at though…

It should have been used in the films though. That’s what I imagined the PT designs to look like, Different but similar to what we knew in the OT. Instead they went off in a totally different direction.

Perhaps the Star Destroyer is the new super weapon. Like Tyber Zann’s Super star destroyer from forces of corruption. In the trailer of Star wars rebels season 2 it looks like the imperials, uses star destroyer interdictor class to pull the crew out of hyperspace. I thought interdictor class was from “legends” and not a “canon” ship.

    • October 12, 2015 at 2:39 pm
      Permalink

Nop. The Interdictor class is from the OT movies, mainly ESB and ROTJ. Legends stories heavily reused them everywhere.
Where they used to force the Falcon and rebels to get out of hyperspace by surprise. As you said.

You can see them from afar in the remastered version. In the very original version you cant see them. But they’re talked about (by Leia for example). And by an imperial officer too. It was enough to know there are vessels with capabilities to force ships out of hyperspace, in the mytho. Zahn, and video games concretized them. We never saw them in action because the death star filled that capability well more efficiently.
And the shape they have in the remastered version was the same the video game used before. In a way, a “Legends” product invented the interdictor class appearance. But i presume it wont change now. That shape in the image above will stay canon.

          -EDIT-
I have to add that in-universe-wise, the interdictor-class was a myth or an imperial project not gone to fruition when Lucas directed ESB. By the time the CG guys had the possibility to add shapes in the armada in ROTJ, in-universe, the empire found a way to make the interdictor-class a reality. But all that in-universe stuff was explained in “Legends” only books and encyclopedia. You may find infos in the “Tarkin” novel, aswell. But all in all, the interdictor-class for the new canon may stay a myth.

Guess that depends if Han has a wife/child, I would (personally) like to think Chewie would be just as committed to Han’s partner/offspring much the same way he stuck by Leia in ESB… But if Han gets toasted there is always the possibility Chewie goes down in a blaze of glory right by his side…

Seriously…. we are facing a new trilogy, and Lego feeds us old world stuff.

The disappointment is massive. It would have been easy for them to make cool new battle packs that refers to TFA, but no… sigh. Won’t be getting any of those sets to be honest, don’t see an incentive at all.
