The video is with pretty low quality but you get the idea. Hope they will release it officially shortly after.

First thoughts here, sounds exciting. Makes me even more scared for Kanan and Ezra though. He says the jedi are all gone. But unlike Obi Wan and Yoda, the rebellion are aware of our K & E. Have been quietly hoping they might survive the rebel series but this puts that in severe doubt

Lucasfilm as a whole does care though. They have a whole team put together to keep canon cohesive. So I don’t think this will contradict Rebels.

Maybe so. All of this new canon is a tie in and I’m guessing this will take place weeks or months before Ep IV but that doesn’t mean either one of those characters are dead, yet. I wouldn’t be surprised if one of the characters from Rebels turned up in this movie though.

        • April 20, 2015 at 12:46 am
          Permalink

actually, perrymoon, I get the feeling that Rebels is for adults… that’s why they’re ramming Ralph McQuarrie down our throats. Kids these days don’t realize what they’re choking on.

          • April 20, 2015 at 2:32 am
            Permalink

Nobody is ramming Ralph McQuarrie down any throat. His designs are part of what made Starwars what it was. Overused repeated descriptions/ideas like “ramming down our throats”, “it won’t work on film” and “his vision” are boring, lame, repetitive and unoriginal and usually don’t serve the poster’s argument very well when used. Regardless, that cartoon show was purposely designed for kids no matter how you slice it though many adults will enjoy it and glance over the more silly/cringe-worthy aspects of it.

          • April 20, 2015 at 9:05 am
            Permalink

I don’t know about ramming down our thoats, but I do feel there is an over reliance on sketches that didn’t make it into the film. Most people hated bb-8, but then found out it was inspired by his sketches and suddenly loved it. Why would we use rejected sketches of r2-d2 when we have actual r2-d2. I love his work and I even love what they have done with it so far, but I do hope we see less “oh don’t worry it’s based on concept art so it’s automatically good” type statements.

Well, I strongly disagree with that, if we’re limiting ourselves to the live-action movies anyway. All of those, as well as the animated series and comics, are primarily aimed at 10-14 year olds.

The old EU did have some novels aimed at adults, but I dislike that notion.

Star Wars shouldn’t be R-rated purely because it doesn’t need to be. The themes of Star Wars have never needed excessive gore or nudity to truly captivate the audience. There are a fair few death screams (mostly wilhelm screams) in Star wars and it never means R-rated.

Looks amazing! My only question is, does this eliminate Asohka, Kannan, or Ezra from being in the movie? It appears that no jedi are involved (do they die/disappear in rebels tv show? :O). And I also love the saving private ryan feel and the blurred lines of whats right and wrong. How far do u go to steal those plans. Hiring bounty hunters could work into the movie because some characters (Felicity Jones?) might be against it, while the rest will work with any scum to get those plans. And Boba Fett could be a double agent on the team and turn because *SPOILERS* he already works for vader in the comics. And would Tarkin/Vader make appearances (recasting?). Lastly incorporating Wedge Antilles as a leader or somebody like Porkins would be cool. Cant Wait for Rogue One!

Set before ANH, so Wedge n Porkins are only pilots and not in command positions. We may see bothans but they stole the plans for the 2nd Death Star.

I thought since the beginning of Rebels that they were taking it there. I think that would have been a great way to tie the show into the films and make the characters matter much more to the larger story.

Nice! The tone is really something new to the SW Galaxy,

as a side-note, do you guys think they’re gonna be aiming at the CW audience with this one?

Couldn’t the character Yvonne from the Princess Leia comics end up a lead character!

Actually thats a pretty nice idea. Talk about tying everything together. That would be interesting.

It’s Evaan, and that theory has been presented several times in the last few weeks since the announcement of the first castmember.

If the box office taking exceeded expectation for any one of these Anthologies or all, will we get sequels?

This one sounds like it will be really gritty.

Another prequel, episode 3.5ish. Disappointing. I thought they were going to go away from the ot/pt plot lines. I’m sure I’ll love it but they missed a golden opprutunity

“Wars not make one great!” – Master Yoda

I’m hoping this is not just going to be a two hour propaganda war film!

A “propaganda” film set in a fictional war setting. You do realize that Yoda led the charge in episode II right?

That’s not my real complaint about your comment. You see it as a bad thing that they make a legit “war” movie in the Star WARS universe rebels vs. stormtroopers and agents is long overdue.

I`m a little confused here – have they actually started filming Rogue One? (obviously if there`s footage already then they have started) – but I was under the impression that filming wouldn`1t start until May at the earliest.

And who’s gonna play Tarkin’s role ? I think Ben Mendelsohn is going to play a villain and well, if CGI will not be used to recreate Peter Cushing’s face, that actor could be a nice choice…

I’d rather Tarkin be left alone. He can be mentioned, but I’d rather see other Imperials lead in the villain department in this film. It makes sense that Vader would appear since he sort of took the role as enforcer in this era, but Tarkin is more of a boardroom bad guy. Give us elite stormtroopers!

Use the guy that played the role at the end of ROTS. It was a walk on and he had no lines, but he looked the part and his mannerisms were perfect.

Upon initially hearing about Disney’s intentions to make a series of spin-off films, I felt this was a mistake and would only serve to cheapen Star Wars.

This clip did everything to reinforce this viewpoint because it did not look nor feel like authentic Star Wars at all.

What is “authentic” Star Wars. Don’t get me wrong. The idea of a “gritty and realistic” (What?) Star Wars film does baffle me, but on the other hand Star Wars can have different vibes and characterizations.

They know people were going to record it and upload. If it goes viral and beyond..they feel better. Its a marketing ploy and a way to get their feet wet.
With the Saga they know they have something sustainable, but with the spinoffs, this is new territory.
Its all part of the hype machine.
      Just like the JJ leaks.
