New Star Wars Digital Trading Card App Comes to iOS!

kylo renTopps has put out an iOS app called Star Wars Card Trader that allows users to collect, trade, and display official Star Wars trading cards, replicating every card released since Episode IV‘s release in 1977, and adding eight new cards for characters who will appear in the upcoming Episode VII for the first time. More info after the jump!

From USAToday.com.

Available now for iOS devices, the Star Wars: Card Trader app features hundreds and soon thousands of cards pulled from more than 30 years of the franchise featuring beloved characters, memorable locations and cool vehicles.

The app brings back vintage cards released by Topps around the time of the original movies in a digital format, and the company also plans to create original cards with new artwork based on reinterpretations of the Star Wars films.

And for those looking forward to Star Wars: The Force Awakens, there are eight cards from the new film for folks to look out for at launch plus more to come.

Topps actually ran the app by Lucasfilm and Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams early on to show “we’re really honoring the spirit of not only the older Star Wars movies but obviously the upcoming, perhaps most anticipated movie ever,” says Michael Bramlage, vice president of digital for Topps.

There are three different tiered levels when choosing which packs to buy — plus users will get one free pack by coming back every day. Collectors can get a midlevel pack for about $1 worth of credits in the in-app Cantina.

In addition to cards of various rarities featuring stills from the Star Wars movies and cartoons, there are special “Legends” cards for characters such as Yoda, Darth Vader and Han Solo as well as motion cards and others that embrace what Topps can do with new technology.

Some of the surprises they have in store are “trying to push the envelope on what a digital card can be,” Bramlage says. “And we’re exploring all manner of animation and effects and graphics work.”

Star Wars: Card Trader brings a social experience as well — users can trade cards with each other and rate their transactions while building out their sets and getting rid of unwanted doubles.

This is a really cool idea! I wish they had it for Android and Windows Phone users as well, but hey that will come soon I’m sure! If you have an Apple device will you download the app? What cards are you looking forward to collecting? Let us know in the Cantina!

Why always on IOS first, it’s as if Pepsi is better than Coke. It isn’t. So start putting stuff out on Android first. Dammit.

Oh no…If this app is well done with nice ideas for pictures and there is actual trading with other people I’ll actually be fine with buying some cards…

Can it scan my actual cards from 1977/1978 so I don’t have to “re-buy” them? I still have boxes of them. That would be coolio.
