UPDATE 3! J.J. Abrams on Domhnall Gleeson, Billie Lourd, Filming on Skellig Michael and The Force Awakens Rumors: Some are True!

J.J. AbramsJ.J. Abrams was hosting the 10th annual US-Ireland Aliiance’s Oscar Wilde Awards last night in Los Angeles, where actress Carrie Fisher was being honoured. During an interview with BBC News the director spoke about the highly anticipated new Star Wars movie and surprisingly revealed that actually some rumors about The Force Awakens are true…

(February 20, 2015)

From BBC News:

“I can’t wait for you to see it. It’s been a blast working on this and luckily we have an incredible post-production team,” Abrams told the BBC News website on Thursday.

“There are always challenges as you go but it’s been a complete kick to put this together.”

Asked about the secrecy surrounding the script, Abrams added: “We did the best we can to preserve the story for the audience, but it doesn’t always work.

“There are a ton of rumours – some true, some false. But I’m grateful for everyone who would want to read a spoiler because it means that they care and want to see the movie.

“I know what it feels like, as an enormous Star Wars fan myself.”

Carrie Fisher

Carrie Fisher brought along her best friend, the French Bulldog Gary, to the event where she was presented an award honouring her lifetime career. The award was presented by Stephen Fry:

“Everybody who knows her well would say she’s witty and brilliantly clever,” he said.

“She’s had a huge career as a script doctor that most people wouldn’t know about. She’s written on and tweaked the screenplays of huge movies over the past 25 years.”

Fisher’s film career includes When Harry Met Sally, Hannah and Her Sisters and The Blues Brothers.

Her novel, Postcards from the Edge, was made into an Oscar-nominated film starring Shirley MacLaine and Meryl Streep.

Her memoirs include Wishful Drinking which she also performed in a one-woman stage version.

Fry said: “She’s charted her own adventures and misadventures with mental health and drugs in a way that was really pioneering, and very influential for a lot of people, myself included.”

Well, it’s good to hear that the rumors are not that off-based as Oscar Isaac suggested a few weeks ago. And kudos to Mr. Abrams for staying positive while discussing the level of spoilers surrounding his new movie.

December 18th can’t come quick enough!

UPDATE!

In another interview Abrams  praised Irish actor Domhnall Gleeson and said that it is “a joy” to work with him

From Herald.ie (via MagnarTheGreat):

He had nothing but praise for Gleeson (31) whose role in the upcoming Star Wars – The Force Awakens is top secret.

“He is such a brilliant actor. I cannot tell you how lucky we are to have him. He is so good and so smart. He’s an utter joy to work with,” Abrams told the Herald last night.

UPDATE 2!

Abrams spoke about Carrie Fisher’s daughter Billie Lourd. Also Fisher revealed that she still hasn’t seen The Force Awakens teaser.

From E Online:

“Billie Lourd, come on! She came out of nowhere, right?” Abrams joked to E! News.
Asked how it’s been working with both Carrie and her daughter, J.J. had nothing but praise to share for the 58-year-old actress.
“When you invite Carrie, they just all come,” he quipped before adding, “It’s great. I mean she is spectacular and as funny as you could imagine and a real treat to work with as well.”

“I’ve known Billie since she was six or something,” the director said of the 22-year-old beauty. “So to see her…I can’t believe that she’s this young woman who’s clearly going into the stratosphere.”

During the event’s green carpet, E! News also had a chance to chat with Fisher, who admitted she has yet to see the latest Star Wars trailer—”That makes me bad!” she exclaimed—after revealing how she helped her daughter prepare for her big acting debut.
“I gave her acting lessons,” the mother of one, who walked the carpet with her French bulldog Gary, said before joking, “I don’t act well, I give acting lessons—this is an ad.”

UPDATE 3!

I always loved J. J. Most directors would be absolutely furious at some of the leaks and rumours that have come out but J.J. is calm about it all. He just knows we’re very excited because, like he said, he’s been there before.

I can’t wait for the film.

into darkness was let down by Kurtzman and Orci’s lazy writing, JJs directing in the film was fine he’s proved he is more than capable of reinvigurating a franchise with his first star trek film, also disney has delivered massively with the marvel films so i don’t feel theres a reason to be pessimistic about them, finally Kasdan co worte the new script with JJ which makes me feel very optimistic about the film.

One thing is for sure: JJ loves Episode IV… Which explains why Force Awakens seems to be a complete play-by-play of IV.

Lightsabers made of material that’s extraordinarily heat and impact resistant is not necessarily outside of the stylized level of realism established by the OT. It’s all about whether they execute these improbable things in an earthy and believable way.

I’ve personally not read NY of the rumours, I don’t mind character or design descriptions, but why the hell would you want the entire story ruined by knowing everything beforehand. We live in a weird culture of wanting everything right now – people basically act like spoiled children. I feel sorry for everyone who has no surprises left on Dec 18th.

For me, it’s because I am nervous about these new movies. I expect that objectively, as films, they will be pretty much the quality of JJ’s other movies like Star Trek and Super 8, which is fine. But as a Star Wars fan, I am very worried that I won’t like where the story goes regardless of quality. So I am trying to find spoilers so I know what to expect, so that my expectations for the movie are in line with what I will actually be seeing. That way, I don’t end up disappointed if I go into the theater and nothing goes how I would like it to.

I know people that are like that about movies, VERY few movies make the cut. Not my cup of tea, I’ll watch a bad film, I need a laugh… something-000 BC, transformers, Spiderman 3, classics. Just the other day i caught some film about a giant snowstorm. WORST FILM EVER, like “I could do that better, seriously, i could” bad. I laughed so hard.
I just hope Ep VII is bad in the right way.
Take EpIV, not a good film. Weird dialogue, soso acting. You just HAVE to love it. And that scene where C3PO and R2 cross friggin’ firefight of twenty blasters by 10 feet walking slowly. Cracks me up every time, also Ben Kenobi doing the spin, WTH? but it is great in it’s own really twisted way.
It’s Star Wars, it’s so great, it doesn’t NEED to be good!
The Ewoks, were a big WTF, Lucas threw a curveball that quite honestly tied the film together. Could you really imagine the gang gathering around the sheild-base WITHOUT those damn murder-bear? the movie was getting to good, it needed something to maintain the “up-yours conventional filmmaking” insanity level. Everything else in the film was legitimately good, Ep VI was bad, but it did NOT SUCK. That should count for something.
Phantom menace had it’s moments, but overall it was lame. I’m sorry, it was.
In a weird way some of the scenes in Attack of the Clones were actually better [a few, as in, 2 scenes: Watto and punchin’ in the rain.]

My opinion, make what you will of it.

A New Hope is an all time classic. Sure it has bits of B-movie level material, but to compare it to the Transformers movies is an insult. Those movies are horrific, embarrassing trash. The only way of finding out if it will be a good, memorable story would be to read the entire, final official script which would be going too far for me. It may get leaked at some point but I won’t read it.

soo heres like an outline for the story
·Christine gwendoline is a chrometrooper who possesses a lightsaber but probably only is trained in jedi arts but not force sensitive like grevious plus shes related to tarkin

·Rey is leias and hans daughter could be she is also kylo rens (gleeson) sister or cousin and she is in hiding because she holds the item kylo ren wants to open the sith cave

·Fin is a stormtrooper but goes rogue realizing he cant kill innocent people because he is force sensitive and has that jedi love so he runs off he meets poe and rey and they go visit luke to tell him about the force.

·Luke is guarding the sith temple because he is guilty and feels responsible for kylo ren turning evil and the death of his jedi padawan and feels his duty to protect the sith cave and once he meets fin he is angry at rey for coming to him knowing it can cause danger but still accepts her and this is where flashbacks start he tells the story of kylo turning sith and something that AWAKENED in him
and then starts training fin even though he doesnt seem like he wants too

·Poe is a rebel and he and drivers character know each but they split up and poe encounters rey and fin before meeting luke

·Han and leia are looking for both luke and rey and they encounter a lot of problems like the chrometrooper and get trapped causing luke to get out of hiding and has to leave the sith cave alone knowing reys with him so kylo has no choose to go wheres hes at

·Kylo ren (played by gleeson) was a jedi trained by luke he is probably lukes son or nephew, but serkis character seduced him to the dark side and tells him about the power in the sith cave and gives him the sith lightsaber (Serkis maybye just using him) making kylo do the dirty work for him and killing the jedis who tried stopping him, kylo faces luke but loses to him and probably lost a limb and runs off but now searching for what serkis told him to find since luke had it but gave it to rey

·Adam drivers character was a rebel once leaving poe later on he encounters kylo ren and is afraid he might die but before kylo can kill him he sinces hes force sensitive and seduce him to the dark side instead and says hell train him (kylo probably knows serkis character might betray him)

    · Max von sydow is an accomplice with the chrometrooper and they are ready to fights the rebels

    · Luke comes in and so does kylo but kylo is not part of the rebels or the galaxy so theres a three way battle going on which the climax of the film

thats about what i have soo far im sorry i wrote too much i know its long lol

    had to post this 😉
all the star wars references i found in Kingsman (SPOILERS AHEAD) :
-young man gets trained by elderly man who worked with his father
-mark hammil (in a scene with samuel jackson)
-when mark ham/samuel jackson met the music has the first few notes of “luke’s story/star wars theme”
-Elderly teacher dies, makes youngling even more determined to do the right thing (A new hope)
-almost identical shot of a blaster in the snow with man next to it (as seen in empire strikes back)
-shot of airplane going into mountain looks like beginning of return of the jedi when vader enters the new death star (return of the jedi)
-chase inside the mountain looks as first vader scene when he enters the rebel ship (a new hope)

It’s “Binks”; and don’t forget Lumpy. He’s going to be the savior of Jar Jar (from carbonite at the climax of Episode VIII), and together, they’re going to be the “last hopes” in Episode IX.

The latest rumor. Wow, I guess JJ doesnt really need to lift a finger to spread misinformation. The fans are doing that work on their own.

“Of all the stories you told me, which ones were true and which ones weren’t?”
“My dear Doctor, they’re all true.”
    “Even the lies?”
    “Especially the lies.”

    Yeah.
Everybody talks about original cast, boyega, Daisy, Isaac, driver, serkis…

And no one seems to talk about Gleeson. And personally i think his character will surprise all of us. Great cast.

It was inferred before they could be shooting red herring scenes last year and reshooting the actual key scenes in other locations. The crews production materials may only say one scene was filmed but you haven’t sern everything! Well of course. I understand people are convinced by their sources but Into Darkness Khan scenes were filmed using a reverse audiomasking. Everyone knew Harrisson/Cumberbatch was Khan but to go to all that trouble for secrecy is bordering on near obsessive. I have no doubt they are using more sophisticated methods here given whats at stake is a lot greater.

    Less then 300 days..
Three seasonst, about 600 times brushing teeth. 900 meals. 10 months. There is an upside. I am 41 and my life goes crazy fast if you comoare it with 30 years ago. That whole waiting stuff pretty much slows the year down to a complete hold.

Mightyhawk – I can really relate, I am 40 this year and the first movie I saw in theatres as a kid was Star Wars. I am Canadian but live in Spain (where they always dub everything into Spanish in the cinema). However, luckily we will be going back to Canada for Christmas vacation this year and I have promised my 6 year old daughter that we will go see the new Star Wars in English in the theatre. She has never seen any Star Wars yet but is very excited… will also be nice if there is some stuff kids will like in there (maybe BB-8?)
