Carrie Fisher Talks Star Wars: Episode 7.

While discussing her new film, David Cronenberg’s Map To The Stars, the actress briefly talked about her return to the sci-fi franchise and how being part of it has changed her life…

From IBTimes:

“I love making them. Star Wars has been my whole life. It wasn’t this deal with the devil, it’s this deal with Disney. It’s like summer camp for droids,” she said.

“The new actors are great. I go: ‘Just you wait till you get a fanbase that’s going to follow you around for 40 years!'”

Fisher was also asked about Leia, and her feelings toward the character that has defined her career. “I am Leia and Leia is me. We’ve overlapped each other because my life has been so cartoony or superhero-like. By this age, it would be ridiculous if I had a problem with it. Most people are really nice, even if you’re tattooed on their arm.”

She was also questioned about a quote from her autobiography in which she said Star Wars creator George Lucas “ruined my life in the nicest possible way”. “He certainly changed it, but you couldn’t ruin it – it was weird from the beginning. No one had the power to ruin my life, but he sure had the power to transform it.”

Finally, the actress was asked about her daughter and what age she was when she started to realise that people knew who her mother was.

“[She was] pretty young. I was about five when I realised strangers used to come up to my parents. You struggle to understand it at that age, and why you’re being ignored,” she said, speaking of her father, singer Eddie Fisher and mother, actress Debbie Reynolds.

“That’s where insecurity in the children of movie stars can come from. I showed my daughter one of the Star Wars movies and she basically said ‘It’s too loud.’ I didn’t feel that was a valuable critique for George.”

Very few people could understand all that Carrie Fisher has been through. No matter what outcome Episode VII or Star Wars has, I wish her and her family the best.

If you listen to the Big 3 interviews, they all seem to be at peace with their characters these days, and that bodes well for Episode 7. I think for a long time (and I can’t blame them) they didn’t want to be typecast as Han, Luke and Leia, and at certain points probably resented the success of Star Wars. But time heals all wounds, and at their age, they are secure who they are these days.

      Absolutely.
If they’re not at peace with their characters, why return to make another one? One probably answer is cause Episode VII will be f….. great!! 😉

Star Wars royalty! Hopefully they don’t mess up Leia’s character. It would be awesome to see Leia reigning the galaxy in all her glorious badassness. It would be awesome if she made a surprise return at the end of ep 9 to give medals to the hero’s 😉

The headline should be changed to Carrie Fisher talks about herself.

at least she didn’t go on about how JJ Abrams is god and how they’re using practical sets and effects… which is what every other actor involved in this project says whenever a microphone is thrusted into his face.

Lucas created Leia’s character, Kasdan refined that character into an actual personality (there is a difference) when he wrote on Ep V, but Carrie Fisher brought it all to life. As long as JJ’ is on the same page as Kasdan and Fisher, I wouldn’t worry about it too much.

Carrie is a ledge. I think she is allowed to mention herself and her opinions in interviews..

Technically, she could start detailing the entire plot and give away everything, whatever her contract says. Are they going to fire Princess Leia? Nope. She would get a stern look from JJ, and that would be pretty much all they could do.

I commend your ability and willingness to comment on an article you read by mistake and have little interest in. Long live pointless self-entertaining criticism

Time will tell if we would have been better off remembering them as they were. Fingers crossed..

    She’s one baddass Mama!
I doubt anyone in the galaxy dares to directly take her on these days; i wonder if Leia has voice powers also, like if are against her, and they hear her voice or she talks to them, it curses them to different degress?
Just as well Han’s level headed, i bet he’s still never let anyone talk to him about ‘the odds’, what with Leia’s ball room dance of galatic leadership making Han the one dimensional one out of the two..
