More Interesting Bits and Rumors About the Star Wars VII Skellig Michael Shoot.

Skellig Michael

Now with the Skellig Michael shoot officially wrapped we can look back and see that actually the 3 day filming process on the Irish island revealed maybe the most real info about the movie since the start of filming 3 months ago. Of course some of the info is based on rumors, but they are rumors based on set reports which is much more credible than just web talk. Hit the jump for some more interesting bits and rumors from the Skellig shoot…

First of all if you missed our previous reports about the Skellig shoot, you make sure to check them out. They are all connected. Click HERE and HERE.

As we told you in the start of the shoot the scene shot on Skellig will feature only two actors. Later it was confirmed that Mark Hamill and Daisy Ridley were the only cast members present on the set.

Something more – the production names of the two characters have been revealed via the production tag board at Portmagee. They had the initials K and OW. Most likely, as some rumors from the Puzzlewood suggested, Daisy’s character production name is Kira. That leaves the OW initials for Luke. First the initials were quoted as DK but later another site reported that they are OW. It’s really not that far fetched Luke’s production name to be Obi-Wan for instance, isn’t it? Considering his latest look and rumors he definitely can be called the Obi-Wan of the Sequel Trilogy. The PT had Qui-Gon the OT had Obi-Wan and the ST has Luke. Of course OW could be something quite different from Obi-Wan but that’s really not important.

Let me just remind you that these are just production names and they won’t be used in the actual movie.

The Magic Board

Now what else can be found on the “Magic Tags Board”.

The first initials under “production” are KK. So despite the rumors that the scene shot on Skellig will be only a minute long in the actual movie, the presence of Lucasfilm President and Star Wars VII Executive Producer Kathleen Kennedy suggests that the scene is really important. And if the initials KK are not enough to convince you that Kathy was there, here’s another proof (via kerryseye):

Kennedy and Hamill

Under “camera” you can see the initials of the Director of Photography Dan Mindel. No surprises here. What’s more interesting are the initials CB and RC under Stunts.

The presence of Hamill’s and Ridley’s stunt doubles on set really speaks for itself. So obviously they were not filming some sad scenes with dialogue for the end of the movie as some speculations suggested. You probably remember that the initials CB belong to Chloe Bruce who was on set with Daisy Ridley during the Abu Dhabi shoot. She was rumored to be Ridley’s stunt double and now her presence on the island confirms it. You can see some of Chloe’s extraordinary abilities here:

And do you remember these extras reports from the Abu Dhabi shoot:

A source out in Abu Dhabi tells me that Daisy’s character is EXTREMELY gymnastic.

An extra on set of Star Wars Episode VII told me “today was very exciting, very exhausting, but really awesome. it was all about action today, explosions were awesome, and Daisy amazing like always, light on her feet, sharp face, beautiful, quick, and very polite.”

Obviously if the Skellig scene is at the end of the movie then Ridley already has some skills. It surely is not the start of the training by Luke. And I still like the idea of a possible stand off between the two although it’s very unlikely. Make no mistake. There will be good guys tempted by the Dark Side in the sequel trilogy. We just have to wait and see who they are.

So as you can see the Magic Board revealed plenty of really cool bits about this otherwise secretive shoot. It definitely told us more than what we’ve learned from the Iceland, Abu Dhabi, Puzzlewood or Pinewood shoots.

Actually I’m pretty surprised they just left that board open to the public…. Well, not anymore 🙂

Woah that last photo is nuts… crazy terrain. Good choice for location 🙂

    • August 2, 2014 at 4:26 pm

I know! The more I find out, the more confident I am that this will be a fucking magnificent movie!!

  • August 1, 2014 at 8:36 pm

Luke passing on what he has learned??

  • August 1, 2014 at 8:39 pm

Love and worries combine as Star Wars VII becomes more and more real 🙂

  • August 1, 2014 at 8:40 pm

Chloe Bruce is ridiculous. Makes Darth Maul look like a wuss. Love that over/behind the head kick that she Bruce does. That has to make it into a fight scene…

    • August 1, 2014 at 8:45 pm

That’s the so called scorpion kick. You can see it in Guardians of the Galaxy. She is a stunt double there too.

      • August 1, 2014 at 8:57 pm

As a former gymnast, I have seen the “Scorpion” as a stretch/pose before, but the actual kick and force Chloe Bruce generates with it is impressive.

        • August 1, 2014 at 9:15 pm

Come to think of it, Trinity did it in the Matrix movies, too, but it just looks more legit and impressive in this kind of real-time video.

  • August 1, 2014 at 8:43 pm

I bet they were filming some cool action over there, considering the last photo

  • August 1, 2014 at 8:49 pm

    ‘For what it’s worth

-Title will be the first to feature only one word.

-Han and Leia had two children, a boy and a girl. Though they weren’t twins. The elder boy was said to have died in childbirth, but was secretly raised by Max Von Sydow’s character. A girl, “O…..” was born a few years later. The male child won’t appear until the next film [which takes place nearly a decade later]. This is why only one offspring has been cast for Episode 7.

-Oscar Isaac’s character “K….” is shipmate on the Falcon, is “O…..”‘s love interest, and inherits the ship when Han perishes.

-Luke inhabits Obi-Wan’s old home, is sought out after a disturbing turn of events, returns to Dagobah for information/reflection.

-Boyega’s character is childhood friends with “O…..”, is a pilot, accompanies “O….” to find Luke.

-Film will mark the first time we see the assembly of a light saber on screen, following rare ‘element’ acquisition by young Jedi in training on remote world (recently filmed in Ireland).

    -Adam Driver plays an officer.

    -Gwendoline Christie plays a general.

    …more to come’

    • August 1, 2014 at 9:00 pm

Well OK. Let assume this is legit. Tell me how you got this info. I was told that no one actually has seen the script. Just small excerpts. So it’s impossible someone to know so much. Sorry. 🙂

    • August 1, 2014 at 9:03 pm

Luke isn’t going to tatooine to live in obi wans hut, that’s ridiculous

      • August 1, 2014 at 9:20 pm

Nothing said it was Obi-Wan’s hut on Tatooine. Maybe it is from his homeworld or birth place. Obi-Wan always had kind of an Irish feel to him, so why can’t his homeworld be an island off of Ireland?

        • August 1, 2014 at 9:22 pm

You do realise that Ireland isn’t actually a location in star wars right?

          • August 1, 2014 at 9:30 pm

Well, of course not. But lets use our imagination just a smidge, shall we? Parallels between the Star Wars universe and the real world help with relatability… Plus you completely overlook the point of the post: Not Tattooine.

          • August 1, 2014 at 9:42 pm

“why can’t his homeworld be an island off of Ireland?”
            Was just answering the question

          • August 1, 2014 at 10:39 pm

“Parallels between the Star Wars universe and the real world help with relatability.”

Right. That’s why the Skywalkers, the Lars and Beru look so much like Arabs, North Africans, Sepharadic Jews, Beduins, or any other ethnicity originally from a desert environment parallel to Tatooine in the real world.

And just for the record, neither Ewan McGregor nor Sir Alec Guinness were born in Ireland.

          • August 1, 2014 at 11:36 pm

Oh please, let’s not blow this out of proportion. And I never said they were from Ireland… amazing how confrontational some have to be.

And you are still overlooking the original point that Obi-Wan’s “home” doesn’t have to just be Tattooine.

        • August 1, 2014 at 10:31 pm

Dude said obi wans old home.. only home he had was on tatooine… lol watch the movies please

          • August 1, 2014 at 11:44 pm

“old home” does not necessarily equal Tattooine. Was Obi Wan born on Tattooine? No. According to Wookiepedia his homeworld was Stewjon, “a terrestrial planet with an atmosphere that consisted of a breathable oxygen mix that could support Human life. The world had a climate that supported the growth of grass.” I’ll admit that I do not know if this history is considered canon or not, but it merely illustrates that there are other candidate worlds for Obi Wan’s “old home.”

          • August 1, 2014 at 11:59 pm

Obi Wan was a jedi of the old republic where they take kids from birth.. it’s not obi wans home planet, give it a rest lol

          • August 2, 2014 at 12:03 am

Well again, according to Wookiepedia, Obi Wan had some memory of his home planet and was permitted to occasionally visit his family on Stewjon.

And I believe there has been suggestions in the upcoming Rebels that Obi Wan didn’t just stay on Tattooine the entire time after delivering the infant Luke to Owen and Beru up until Luke sought out old Ben Kenobi.

So again, why can’t Obi Wan’s “old home” be someplace besides Tattooine?

          • August 2, 2014 at 1:27 am

Was never shown or talked about in the films.

Why put Luke in Ben’s never before heard of or seen home when there’s millions of different possibilities for this location.

“I will look over the boy”

Not.. “I will look over the boy, and take vacations to my summer home”

Luke is the son of the most powerful Jedi ever. He’s not gonna go live in someone else’s home. He would build his own lol

          • August 2, 2014 at 1:39 am

Fair enough, but just because Obi Wan’s homeworld has never been shown or mentioned in the films does not mean it is impossible for it to show up in the ST. I like the idea of Luke seeking out the history and origins of the Jedi and Sith in his quest to better understand the force, and coming across Obi Wan’s homeworld in such a scenario would not be unheard of. I prefer this as an alternative to Tattooine for Obi Wan’s “old home” as opposed to some other as-yet-unknown world.

While I tend to agree with you that it logically makes less sense that Obi Wan would leave Tattooine “for vacation” or otherwise after beginning to “look after the boy,” it is still within the realm of possibilities, whether to visit his homeworld or some other place. Again, I think Rebels has hinted at that possibility… we will just have to wait and see. But you are right, this location could serve any number of different purposes than as Obi Wan’s “old home.” Just speculating and throwing out possibilities for discussion.

    • August 1, 2014 at 9:12 pm

From one insider to the next, I applaud you for withholding the character names, and you’re right on all accounts but one. The single title was abandoned several months ago for a more traditional title (you know the one).
      Be well.

      • August 2, 2014 at 1:18 pm

Not that I don’t appreciate the insider info (if it’s legit), but revealing names seems like the least important spoiler news. Plus it adds validity to the story, since it’s most likely going to be one of the earliest official announcements

    • August 1, 2014 at 10:07 pm

Pretty cool rumors. Hope you are for real!

    • August 1, 2014 at 10:58 pm

Sad that I actually prefer these to any of the more legit rumors.

    • August 2, 2014 at 3:05 am

Just another fan playing with story possibilities blending with, What we know and Rumor mill. However, misguided assumptions as to what is Canon, and missing valid confirmed info, shows through. Very good story arch though. I just can’t wait either, I’m being to think that the new Star Wars will not be as typical to figure out as the last batch.
Gonna be some major plot twists that not slap in the face but…PUNCH HARD!!!

    • August 2, 2014 at 5:03 am

Just out of curiosity… if you know all of this, why hold back who Gleeson is playing? Just rip off the bandaid and tell us.

I’m really hoping he’s Lukes son… I don’t want luke to be like Obi-Wan but more like his a good version of his father. I also want the name Skywalker to carry on… *sigh*

    • August 2, 2014 at 10:44 am

If this is true, I really like the idea of a one word title! It’s a great change of pace from the many movies that have come out recently, and I think adds more mystery to the plot.

Plus it gives us a better chance to guess it’s name…or something

    • August 2, 2014 at 2:15 pm

THANKS for that useful post; a mixture of the startlingly obvious / pretty much confirmed anyway, basic conjecture and outright spazzy fan-fic basement dweller ‘Ooh look at me I’m important’ role-playing.

    • August 2, 2014 at 3:09 pm

I have not continued on in the comments yet to ready replies but as far as this comment…except for Han dying I kind of like the storyline.

    • August 2, 2014 at 6:45 pm

“-Title will be the first to feature only one word.”

Works for Star Wars Rebels, perhaps for spinoffs as well, but after A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith it would feel a bit off to have something along the lines of Star Wars Episode 7: Returns or something of that nature. Multiple words seem to better serve as a summary to the films’ contents.

“-The next film takes place nearly a decade later. Oscar Isaac’s character “K….” is shipmate on the Falcon, is “O…..”‘s love interest, and inherits the ship when Han perishes.”

I must admit although I already loath all talk of Han’s character dying, to rub salt in the wounds, and have the next movie take place nearly a decade later, whereby theoretically Han, Leia, Luke, etc. could be pleasantly written off into the sunset by that point without being killed, that would just suck. As for Oscar inheriting the Falcon? Since A New Hope it was introduced as Han/Chewie’s ship, even when the backstory was further explored whereby it was stated that Han won it from Lando, and when Lando was flying it in Return of the Jedi it was always plainly known that it was Han/Chewie’s (minus the EU stuff). If JJ is going for something special to recapture the A New Hope vibe for a new generation as he has stated in the past, then it would be better to have a new ship introduced, and not steal from the previous generations’ own characters. I say, think of something new, and allow Han/Chewie to keep what is theirs’, especially if they are just being brought back after 30 years to perish anyways.

    • August 2, 2014 at 7:48 pm

      He’s from the friggin future!

  • August 1, 2014 at 8:52 pm

Dantooine? Looks like Dantooine from the art works published before the new Canon

    • August 2, 2014 at 12:44 am

How would you, steviewonder, know what Dantooine looks like? I have no idea either…

  • August 1, 2014 at 8:57 pm

Just gotta say, just because Kathleen Kennedy is there doesn’t mean it’s important. If she hasn’t been to all of the locations anyway, then remember it’s a good excuse for these people to bring family and take a vacation essentially and just visit a beautiful place… Having said that, the scene could still be important. Just don’t let her presence fool you…

    • August 1, 2014 at 9:19 pm

Kathleen Kennedy is producing. She has to be at JJ’s side as often as possible.

  • August 1, 2014 at 8:58 pm

No to most of it, especially the part about the son not showing up until VIII.

    • August 1, 2014 at 9:28 pm

A Darth Maul staff lightsaber to be exact. The supposedly fake screenplay posted a little while back had “Rhea Skywalker” using just such a staff lightsaber, too.

      • August 1, 2014 at 11:48 pm

  • August 1, 2014 at 9:29 pm

    OW = Old Wizard?

That was the first thing I thought of, was surprised no one else said it (if they did, I apologize).

  • August 1, 2014 at 9:31 pm

Chloe is so skilled. very impressiv. funny that her favorit leg is the right. like van Damme.
There must be some very cool fights pip anderson and christina chong is also skilled.

    • August 1, 2014 at 10:55 pm

If these actresses are indeed in EpVII, it begs the question of why so many young actresses that are capable of combat fighting?
      Who or what are they?

  • August 1, 2014 at 9:33 pm

Hamill is in liverpool right now!!! Boss news!!!

Great report Viral Hide! Wondering what’s that construction on the island wall in the last photo. Can’t wait for this film…

  • August 1, 2014 at 9:47 pm

I like that blue shirt that JJ is wearing. Anyone able to post a link to the store please?

      WAL MART

  • August 1, 2014 at 10:03 pm

Not sure how to feel about this. I want to see Daisy as a jedi, and I want to see Luke in a lightsaber fight again, but I want those characters to be on the same side.. Preferably as uncle/niece. I’m pretty sure Daisy is a hero character and I don’t see how on earth they would want to make Luke turn to the dark side, so I have no idea what’s going on.. I don’t want silly lightsaber training scenes either. I always loved that Yoda tought luke about the jedi ways without any lightsaber shlock.

    • August 1, 2014 at 10:27 pm

Correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t the Training scenes in ESB originally include further lightsaber training but Lucas cut it out due to time constraints?

      • August 1, 2014 at 10:42 pm

I know there was some lightsaber stuff in the script. I didn’t think it was filmed though.

      • August 2, 2014 at 1:59 am

Well since it took a couple of months to get barely enough footage to be able to cobble a few minutes of Yoda into the film trying anything as complicated as him with a lightsaber was out.

Somehow I don’t see this as the end of the movie. Not with just the two of them. Of course since the rest of the environment is likely to be done in studio then any number of things can happen.

    • August 1, 2014 at 11:59 pm

If we are trying to go back to an OT 1980’s feel, why not have a Rocky or Karate Kid style 80’s training montage? Then the question is, what song would that training montage be set to?

      • August 2, 2014 at 9:26 am

Jefferson Starship’s “Light The Sky On Fire”.

    • August 2, 2014 at 12:26 am

I would like a lightsaber training scene, at least loosely like how Ben taught Luke in IV. Maybe this time they can both hold one.

  • August 1, 2014 at 11:15 pm

I really like the idea of building a lightsaber. The search for a crystal can b a very cool side plot.

    • August 1, 2014 at 11:25 pm

Makes complete sense. There wouldn’t be any need for a bunch of sabers and fighting since it’s apparently peace time (for the first half of the movie) So a scene where the weapon is built would be all the more emotional and significant.

      • August 2, 2014 at 12:29 am

Maybe the lightsabers aren’t being built because it has become a time of war.

          • August 3, 2014 at 10:58 am

That’s like saying the Old Jedi Order got rid of their lightsabers during peacetime. They should always be ready for anything, like the police or military.

  • August 2, 2014 at 12:08 am

Now i’m worried about myself. If at the end of the movie daisy or mark will travel to that island to find one of them, i will hit myself to a wall.
I don’t know how to stop reading rumors and news…

  • August 2, 2014 at 12:10 am

so far from what I’ve read (Name) rendition of the plot elements seems to be the most accurate. I’ll say thanks for the spoiler warning I am so looking forward to this movie. Really like this site.

  • August 2, 2014 at 12:25 am

Just for the sake of pointing it out…someone has been posting that info up here for awhile. Seen multiple comments of that nature. Not saying that makes it true or not just that if it’s the same person they’re at least consistent with the info.

  • August 2, 2014 at 3:11 am

    They are all in costume!!!

  • August 2, 2014 at 6:03 am

10 years later? Why? That is a very inconvenient plot point for many reasons.

All momentum would be completely and totally lost. Plus you’d have to spend an substantial amount of time setting the stage again in the VIII sequel.

The biggest advantage of the middle film of a trilogy is that you can dive deep into characters and not get caught up in the setup of the 1st film and the closing of the 3rd film…

If this were the case, all of those characters and relationships would change in 10 years.

Which would mean that something extremely substantial would have to happen for 10 years to be required. I just don’t see it. 10 years is too long.

    So…why is 10 years necessary?

    • August 2, 2014 at 6:11 am

      More like 7 years.

    • August 2, 2014 at 1:13 pm

Good question, and excellent point. Grandkids maybe? Not saying it’s a better idea than delving deeper into the characters, but a possible explanation. Or maybe for training to let the characters realize their full potential, or to create a spinoff/series

    • August 2, 2014 at 10:09 pm

How can you have our young cast looking 10 years older if the sequel is being made in 2 or 3 years time?

  • August 2, 2014 at 6:24 am

if you believe that this is based off of the Lucas ideas, he said

“It’s a nine-part saga that has a beginning, a middle and an end. It progresses over a period of about fifty or sixty years with about twenty years between trilogies, each trilogy taking about six or seven years.”

We know it’s 30 years after, which actually makes more sense considering how old the big 3 is.

I just don’t see 10 years between VII and VIII…

    • August 2, 2014 at 11:37 am

I agree. I just can’t get away from it sounding like a pointlessly dumb idea.

Imagine if Lucas had decided to begin Episode V ten years after IV. 0_o

    • August 2, 2014 at 2:45 pm

If you believe every thing Lucas says…

  • August 2, 2014 at 3:21 pm

Dont know how many years between episode 1 and 2 but it must have been quite a few considering how different Anakin looked played by Lloyd and then Hayden Christensen.

    • August 2, 2014 at 3:54 pm

I think they did a stellar job finding actors that resembled each other, so that the transition to “II” became seamless. Not only is Anakin believably the same person in looks, his personality also has a natural progression from I to II.

      • August 2, 2014 at 4:46 pm

        Prequel hating….. Again…….

        • August 3, 2014 at 8:16 am

Yep there is a lot of prequel hating. And with good cause. Because not only did they suck really bad, but they seamed to go out of there way to destroy the characters and stories set up it the OT.

          • August 3, 2014 at 11:18 am

As for the casting of cute little Jake in Episode I, it has been widely observed that he looks much like a (very) young Leonardo DiCaprio. Quite possibly that is what won Jake the part, not his, ahem, thespian abilities. It seems that George Lucas at one point hoped to get Leo to play Anakin Skywalker in Episodes 2 and 3; he even had a meeting with Leo. Nobody says no to George Lucas, right? Well, Leo did.

          • August 4, 2014 at 1:11 pm

I would say you must be kidding but this is George Lucas we are talking about here. What happened to him? Maybe Lucas a had a stroke in the 90s and it killed the part of his brain responsible for creativity.

  • August 2, 2014 at 6:54 pm

It is old wizard as I stated in the previous article about this as Luke is now “the old wizard” like obi wan was in a new hope. Good job JG for putting 2+2 together
Kira is the production name for daisy.
That’s all I got for now

  • August 2, 2014 at 9:56 pm

Another fascinating on a tag board, what do the initials mean? Now it is cover up, Oh my god, what news.

  • August 3, 2014 at 4:38 am

Sounds like we got a Super Shadow wannabe up above, who likes to make things up for gullible folks to believe lol

I agree that Daisy Ridley is going to be a Jedi. I think John Boyega is going to be related to Lando somehow, and will be the charismatic funny guy in this new trilogy. I think it will be quality, equal to the OT and light years (pun intended) better than the PT.

  • August 5, 2014 at 1:47 am

Viral posted a rumor a while ago that Han’s son would appear briefly in EP7 and then prominently in EP8.

This new rumor is that Oscar Isaac is not the son, which makes sense: he doesn’t look like Han and Leia really.

It seems George Lucas’ outlines are out the window and JJ is doing his own thing.
