Update 2! The Wednesday Tease – 2 Years Before the Premiere. Moving Storyboards. Meet Simon Kinberg.

star wars

The Wednesday Tease articles were first started when we expected some kind of a special announcement for the first anniversary of Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm. This Wednesday is also a special one. We’re exactly 2 years away from the official release of Star Wars: Episode 7. Will we get something special today…

Well the last time we were wrong. Nothing really happened then but you have to agree that the signs were there. I still believe there was an initial plan to release something but the change of writers and the delay of the release date thwarted their plans. That doesn’t matter now.

The more important question now is will we get some special announcements today or just another video from the Original Trilogy. As you know we’re exactly 2 years away until Star Wars: Episode 7 hits theaters. And it’s a Wednesday.

While we wait here are some interesting tweets and bits from the last days.

Many people were talking about these rumors (this is from last week so “next week” is actually this week):

Hearing whispers next week might be a “big week” for #StarWars. Stay tuned and fingers crossed…

If not this week then maybe next month.

Yes STAR WARS scoops are going to drop like ducks at a carnival shoot starting next month.

We’re so jealous. 🙂

Big thanks as always to Lucasfilm for the awesome holiday card. @missingwords #StarWars pic.twitter.com/4CEMI99QkW

Not sure why but obviously some people were tricked that there’s an official Episode 7 poster on the web. The “Return to the Stars” poster is definitely fan made.

Just an FYI: There is no official poster for #StarWarsVII – anything floating around is fan-made, including the “Return to the Stars” poster

Oh and Happy Birthday Steven Spielberg.

So here’s the Wednesday vintage video.

Ken Ralston explains how they used “videomatics” – essentially cardboard cut-outs on sticks to plot Return of the Jedi’s climactic space battle.

Another video posted on StarWars.com, this time about Star Wars: Rebels Executive producer Simon Kinberg.

Kinberg grew up loving movies, comics, and “worshipping Star Wars.” In creating Star Wars Rebels, the goal is to create something that is true to the original films, but exists on its own. “The hope and the dream is that the experience of Rebels is similar to the experience of watching A New Hope, and Empire, and Jedi for the first time,” he says.

He calls Darth Vader the greatest villain in the history of storytelling, and that that legacy went into creating the Inquisitor. They wanted him to be formidable and terrifying, but also show that it’s possible for anyone to end up like him, which makes him more terrifying.

Favorite Star Wars film? “Empire Strikes Back without question,” Kinberg says, citing the drama between Vader and Luke Skywalker as the most resonant story in the films.

Favorite character? “Han, because he is everything that every guy ever wanted to be.” Kinberg loves his look and his Western vibe.
Ultimately, he sees Star Wars Rebels as having an important task. “Rebels is going to be the first point of entry for a new generation of Star Wars fans,” he says, “and it will hopefully be a point of return for existing Star Wars fans.”

I don’t think they really have much to give us at this point. Past being prologue, I wouldn’t expect a title announcement until at least this time next year. Plus, depending on how much work remains to be done on the script, they may not have even finalized cast and characters yet.

IMHO, it’s going to be awhile yet before we get any substantial info about Episode 7.

I agree. There’s really no reason for them to release any significant info two years before the movie is released besides the anticipation of the fans, and that’s not really their concern. In fact, making us wait is probably a better marketing tactic on their part anyway. All we can do is be patient and keep our heads about us. Otherwise, we’re really not doing anything but setting ourselves up for disappointment.

As much as I’d love for there to be something I have to agree… How can there be anything? Sounds like finalizing story is still a big part of the production right now. Maybe we could see stuff along the lines of the R2-D2 information but that’s about it really. For now at least.

I think they’re waiting for Carrie, Mark and Harrison to be in presentable shape before the announcement of their involvement is made. We’ve had enough sources say that they’re involved, none of them have directly said their characters aren’t in the film and we’ve seen evidence that they are shaping up for something, so now we’re really just waiting for the official announcement. Besides that bit of news; we really shouldn’t be epecting a title, plot details, teaser trailer and other cast members until sometime next year.

Are these things still considered ‘teases’? The last few have just been little behnd-the-scenes videos from the OT. We’ve also been getting them at the weekends. It all seems rather random at this stage. I hope to be surprised…

I’m seeing a bit of a connection here, Viral Hide. As more behind-the-scenes news was released about Episode 7 (R2D2 being fan-made, Creature effects team and puppeteer being added to the crew), it seems that the wednesday videos have been concerning details and facts about effects used in the OT… Maybe nothing, but interesting nonetheless.

Could be. Still I don’t want to get your hopes high guys with these articles. Actually the Wednesday Tease articles are more like a tradition now. I’m not considering them as something important. They are more like a collection of the more insignificant Star Wars news from the recent days.

By the way thanks dopeyjoe for your contribution to this blog. Really like your comments. 🙂

I’m quite glad that such a blog exists! Thanks for separating the rumors from real news clearly and keeping us all updated!

Also, I don’t know abut the rest of you, but my hopes are going to remain high until that day two years from now when the movie is released and we can all see for ourselves if the anticipation was worth it 🙂

Can we please ask George Lucas to digitally re-composite the mockery of Lucas’ victory-sign to be precisely behind Spielberg’s head?
I’m sure he would agree to that “fix”

Simon Kinberg has revived my hope in an animated Star Wars series, and I couldn’t ask for anyone better to co-write the spinoffs with Kasdan. This guy really sounds like he knows what he’s doing.
“In creating Star Wars Rebels, the goal is to create something that is true to the original films, but exists on its own.” That’s one of the most reassuring things I could’ve read concerning Rebels. Never thought I’d say it, but I cannot wait for the premier of the series!

i sure hope luke han and leia play at least significant supporting roles in this new film otherwise i think the film would really disapoint… i predict han will die in vii, and luke will die in ix. chewie might die in viii. leia might surive until x if they make it, tho i doubt they will anytime this decade. sorry about the lack of caps, for some reason my phone wont let me use capitlization on googl chrome, or spell check for that matter
