Benedict Cumberbatch’s Star Wars Involvement – a Misinformation Campaign by Disney?

star wars

I find this rumor hard to believe but nevertheless it’s an interesting one…

The rumor comes from TheDailySuperhero and is the same source who first revealed Marvel’s interest in Bradly Cooper (now playing Rocket Raccoon in Guardians of the Galaxy):

According to one of The Daily SuperHero’s insiders in Tinseltown, a rumor is circling through several inner circles stating that the buzz surrounding the Cumberbatch rumor of being in Star Wars Episode VII might be something that has been manufactured by Disney. This distraction is being done to help conceal what Disney really wants the actor for… and that’s to be in a future Marvel Studios film.

The contact was once again vague in saying what Marvel Studios role Cumberbatch might be targeted for but there is definitely a tremendous amount of interest by the studio. If this is indeed true, it sounds like a very tricky maneuver by Disney and this is not out of the ordinary since it has been rumored that Disney and Marvel like to leak false info to throw off the media and misdirect fans.

Although I really like Benedict I still believe that Abrams won’t use any members from the Star Trek cast.

Yeah Unfortunately He would be to recognizable as of late to be anything other then a side character in Episode VII

I like Benedict too, but I can’t think of much worse timing for him to be in a Star Wars movie. It’d be kinda like if Lucas had cast Ricardo Montalban as the Emperor in ROTJ. ;^)

Benedict has a helluva cool career ahead of him, even without a SW role.

Or if BBC had him play the Doctor, when he’s already so good as Sherlock.

Exactly! I wasn’t at all crazy about the “Doctor Benedict” rumor when it was going around, for that very reason. (I’m really looking forward to seeing what Peter Capaldi does with the role!)

Same here! My girlfriend and I are a bit dissapointed, because Capaldi has been used in Doctor Who before, but he’ll be a whole new kind of Doctor, being an older portrayal than the others used in the past. I think he’ll do great things with the role. It’s cool because Matt Smith looked so young, but at times acted so old, and Capaldi is older, but I’m sure he’ll have the same youthful charm as the rest of them.

He would play a decent Quicksilver.

Me too. I think the misinformation might be that this was misinformation in the first place. Sort of like when a certain director denied that Khan would be in the last Trek after everyone figured it out.

I believe that quite a lot of the information we’ve been recieving is part of a misleading campaign; the big three muffling their involvement, for example.

I believe that Abrams will not use Cumberbatch. He was too much involved in Star Trek. Abrams is too smart to make such a fatal error.

Hmm, I would not be surprised at all if Cumberbatch is in it. He has loads of fangirls who will create such a buzz and go to see the film just for him. It’s good marketing, people genuinely believe he’s an incredible actor, and/or fancy him. Both Disney and JJ are probably going mad to get him to sign on. He’s a kiss of life to your movie, unfortunately, he would be stupid NOT to put him in. He’s obviously a back up if they can’t find anyone else to fill the role, or who knows, he’s probably the first choice. I mean why bother to audition people to see if they can actually fit the role when you can just cast somebody who everyone fancies and is talking about.. Ugh.. Please please please do not put him in the film JJ!

Star Wars is good marketing as is. They don’t need a “kiss of life” to get people to come see it. No matter who’s in it, what the story is or anything else along those lines; I guarantee that an enormous majority of movie-goers will see Episode 7 in theaters, simply because it’s a new episode of Star Wars. They may or may not use him, but they really don’t need the recognition he’ll bring.

I wouldn’t mind Cumberbatch in the new films, but ony a very small role. I don’t want to be thinking about photon torpedoes or warp drives. I want lightsabers and light speed in my head while watching Star Wars

There’s no way Abrams would use any of the Star Trek cast for Star Wars. He wouldn’t want to risk the ire of fans. Jett Lucas confirmed this in a recent interview.

You do have to admit he would be a good choice for Tarkins grandson : )

He’s better for Trek than he is for Star Wars. JJ will be using underdog actors for the lead roles as we’ve been told.
