Frank Marhsall and Joe Johnston Talk Episode 7.

Producer Frank Marhsall (husband of the new Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy) and Joe Johnston (director of Captain America, art director of The Empire Strikes Back and creator of Boba Fett) shared some more interesting information about Episode 7 and the race for the director’s chair.

Frank Marhsall talked with MTV about the SW director search and revealed that there are “only a couple candidates left”!

“I do,” Marshall replied when asked if he knew who would be behind the hotly awaited “Star Wars” sequel. “But I can’t reveal it, or I won’t be alive tomorrow.”
Marshall added that he doesn’t know when the director will be announced; all he knows is that the hunt has honed in on “a couple of candidates, but I don’t know how soon that will be revealed.” He also knows this: regardless of whoever winds up directing “Star Wars,” it’s going to be one of the most anticipated blockbusters of all time.
“I’m really excited about this,” he said. “I didn’t grow up with it, but I was a big fan and have been since the series started. I’ll always remember seeing that big mother-ship go over the screen. I’ve never forgotten it. I can’t wait to see what’s next.”

The Huffington Post got a chance to ask Joe Johnston if he would like to direct Episode 7. Here’s what he said:

“A lot would depend on what ‘it’ is. I am very glad to see Lucasfilm cranking up to get productive again, regardless of who ends up doing it.”

Good, finally a director which name we can keep on the short list after being asked that question.
