Rumor – New Actors for Classic Cameos Revealed for Rogue One?

The following article might be considered very spoilerific, although the information in it is not something that we haven’t expected to happen one way or another. Still, be warned and proceed at your own risk.

Reddit user tphilb, who claims to be in the movie industry, recently posted about viewing the end credits for Rogue One as part of his profession. Unable to photograph the credits, he was able to jot down some interesting names that shine some light on possible cameos in the film.

Possible spoilers ahead!

Direct quote from the Reddit post:

Because of my line of work, the end credits for Rogue One came across my desk the other day. While I couldn’t take a picture of the screen (phone not allowed, and I like my job), I was able to scribble enough notes that offer some information about who is (and is not) in the film.

No R2D2 listed but could that be because of Kenny Baker’s death and there’s no longer a person inside?
Oh, and there is a “Blockade Runner Pilot” listed too. So this may slip right into the beginning ANH.
Also listed as Special Thanks: Lord and Miller, Rian Johnson, Winberg & Filoni (Rebels), as well as somebody from the Lucas’s Archives.

So, as we said, the appearance of these characters in Rogue One will not be very surprising to the fans. Tarkin has already been spotted numerous times in the trailers and BTS footage. C-3PO and R2-D2 are the only Star Wars characters that appear in all 7 Star Wars movies so far, so their involvement with Rogue One shouldn’t come as a surprise. And it would make perfect sense (just speculating here) if princess Leia  goes off on the mission to bring Kenobi to Alderaan in the movie, as well as rendezvous with the Rogue One crew.

Also keep in mind that the actor who plays Edrio Two Tubes, also had a brief appearance in The Force Awakens as a creature performer (here). This fact was not mentioned by the reddit user, giving even more credibility to his report. If he knew this actor was involved with both movies, he could have used it to support his claim.

With no official confirmation on this, treat it as a rumor for now. But to me, it almost seems too straight forward to not be legit.

What do you make of this rumor? Do you think Threepio and Leia will cameo in Rogue One? Do you like these actors (keep in mind they will probably be incorporating digital likenesses as well)? Share your thoughts in the comments below

I expecting the “with thanks to..” to mean they have digitally borrowed Cushing and Fisher’s faces and “mixed” then up with these actors.

More or less. To be honest, that’s the only way you could do it. Carrie Fisher isn’t a 19 year old girl anymore and Peter Cushing has long since passed. Before I was annoyed at the idea of this but as long as it is done with respect to the actors and they (or their families) are properly recompensed for their likenesses to be used then bring it on.

So its safe to assume that they will do something similar to RDJ as young Tony Stark? Some kind of computer generated manipulation of a real actors face?

Yes. The only danger in doing it is that we have those actors fresh in our memories so if the effect is off by even a little bit the illusion will be shattered. Fingers crossed that they can make it work because I want to see it work. You really do need those characters as connective tissue between Rogue One and A New Hope.

Its also improved a lot recently, have you seen Westworld and Anthony Hopkins de-aged? Will be interesting to see the results.

Yes Westworld is another great example. I love that show and was surprised I forgot about Hopkins de-aging shots. Very well done.

Brief glimpses of him can be seen in the BTS footage from Celebration, the final trailer and one of the clips. He was also officially confirmed by EW.

It was very vague to start with. I believed he was in a shot with a group of officers on the Death Star, but there was no confirmation or lead through the actor playing him. I might still be wrong, but I’m sure he’s amongst the group.

Feel bad for Carrie Fisher, she’s a trooper and had been lobbying for her daughter…

She lobbied for her daughter to have a part, which she got. And her role may be larger in EP8.

Well, if they’re indeed going to put a digital face or tons of makeup on the girl, for a brief cameo, do Academy Award-winning acting skills really matter? And it’s not like the new administration has been free of nepotism, :cough: Spielberg :cough:

Surprised no Iain McDiarmid. Palpatine is the big bad guy in this universe, Vader like the Death Star are just weapons that belong to him.

Yeah me too. I guess it’s a big universe, and Palpatine is off doing “Empire stuff” elsewhere, having trusted his servants to take care of things.

Actually come to think of it, I’m not really sure the Emperor is really needed in the film though?

My theory: Vader comes kills the rebels as they got off the transmission to Leias ship but is damaged and he’s in the baca tank. Hence why he’s a bit slower in ANH. Bail realizes that they need a Jedi to lead them against a Sith and sends Leia there.

Guarding a kaiber crystal? Accompanying Vader? We’ve seen in the new canon (and even the old) that Vader has full authority over them. Even killed a few for failure.

In the original novel, it’s alluded to the fact that Palpy’s a bit of s shut-in, and in the ‘Aftermath’ / other new canon novels, they also make it seem like he doesn’t travel all that much…and it’s not really public knowledge he’s a Sith Lord

      Another galaxy, another time.
The Old Republic was the Republic of legend, greater than distance or time. No need to note where it was or whence it came, only to know that… it was the Republic.
Once, under the wise rule of the Senate and the protection of the Jedi Knights, the Republic throve and grew. But as often happens when wealth and power pass beyond the admirable and attain the awesome, then appear those evil ones who have greed to match.
So it was with the Republic at its height. Like the greatest of trees, able to withstand any external attack, the Republic rotted from within though the danger was not visible from outside.
Aided and abetted by restless, power-hungry individuals within the government, and the massive organs of commerce, the ambitious Senator Palpatine caused himself to be elected President of the Republic. He promised to reunite the disaffected among the people and to restore the remembered glory of the Republic.
Once secure in office he declared himself Emperor, shutting himself away from the populace. Soon he was controlled by the very assistants and boot-lickers he had appointed to high office, and the cries of the people for justice did not reach his ears.
Having exterminated through treachery and deception the Jedi Knights, guardians of justice in the galaxy, the Imperial governors and bureaucrats prepared to institute a reign of terror among the disheartened worlds of the galaxy. Many used the imperial forces and the name of the increasingly isolated Emperor to further their own personal ambitions.
But a small number of systems rebelled at these new outrages. Declaring themselves opposed to the New Order they began the great battle to restore the Old Republic.
From the beginning they were vastly outnumbered by the systems held in thrall by the Emperor. In those first dark days it seemed certain the bright flame of resistance would be extinguished before it could cast the light of new truth across a galaxy of oppressed and beaten peoples…

Ah, so a fellow Norwegian of mine — Ingvild Deila — is playing Leia? Her facial features are fairly similar to a young Carrie Fisher to begin with, so with all the proper make-up she would probably already be good enough for “Leia from a distance” or “Leia as hologram”. But I guess there will also be some digital tweaking to make it perfect.

What I think they may have done, is created a ‘digital make up process’, To recreate the look of some characters. A ‘digital mask’. Having actors who approximate the appearance of past actors would help do this.
This has been done widely before.
Giving thanks to the original stars, reinforces this, also they may have done voice work, or used samples. Or used an actors voice pattern.
I think this will be stunning.
