3 Similar Rumors from 3 Separate Sources About Luke’s Role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens!

luke_skywalkerA while ago, this bit of art circled the internet – it was eventually discovered to be a recreation of an image made of concept art that has since been leaked, and the belief that the big baddie of Episode VII has since been widely thought of as a sort of cyborg. The rumors even went further suggesting who that character is. BEWARE, major (rumored) SPOILERS will be discussed in this post, so read at your own risk.

The rumor concerns itself not only with the main antagonist, played by Adam Driver, but also the role of Luke Skywalker. The first bit of testimony comes from Kyle from our message board, The Cantina. He knew about the aforementioned concept art leak a little while before it happened, so we can place our trust in what he has to say. He notes that he got the information from one of his sources that showed him visual evidence of the scene described below. Actually Kyle first described this scene even before the concept art leak, when the scene was only described to him. That’s why you might be familiar with the outline of the scene. Now the description is much more detailed and perfectly fits with some other Luke rumors that were recently posted.

Here are excerpts from Kyle’s description:

Luke Skywalker, bearded and fully fleshed, raising a GREEN lightsaber at Han, who in turn has his classic blaster pointed at him. Adam Driver stands, not so much beside Han, but more off to the side. The perspective almost makes Driver look like he is in the middle. Driver looks concerned, but not frightened, more like he is pondering his next move.

Luke_Skywalker

I hate to say it, but Luke looks like a crazy person. I don’t know if he’s a villain, a cyborg, or a Jedi Master; but one thing is for sure, he’s a long way from the “Luke Skywalker here to rescue you”. It was actually a little unsettling to see.

Luke was in a tattered robe, but I couldn’t tell if it was fully brown or black, because it looked dirty and beat to s***.

Luke has some sort of gash or cut on his left forehead. Think Captain Kirk in Star Trek 3 after he fights the Klingon captain at the end. I guess it’s safe to say Luke looks like he just got his ass kicked.

Han looks like he is trying to reason with him, but also does not look happy to have a lightsaber pointed his way. His clothes look worn as well, and he appears somewhat disheveled. It’s unmistakably Han Solo, mostly because of his vest/white long sleeve shirt, as well as his blaster. He looks badass as ever.

Driver looks like he’s dressed business casual. Gray/black suit, with some sort of burgundy vest or jacket thing. It was hard to tell, of the three men, he was in the most dimly lit part of the frame. I still believe he’s the villain or secondary villain, but he just looks like a bystander here.

adam-driver-star-wars-2

The three of them are standing in what I guess is a cave or some partially natural environment. The ground beneath them is gravel or dirt. The walls are definitely rock. The lighting is either from a small fire or an incredibly dim source.

The full post can be read here. BTW we got a confirmation from a second source that such photo, image or whatever it is, does exist.

Now first some backstory on the next story. Few days ago there were several rumors posted on 4chan that were completely fake. Not only did they sound ridiculous, but they also said that we at SW7N confirmed to them that the rumors are legit, and that we have sources inside Bad Robot. Both of these statements are a direct lie and I made sure to post a notice on our message boards. Of course I’m very far from saying that everything posted there is fake. After all the Mizzlelump rumors (which we also covered) were posted on that same place, and I have a reason to believe that they were legit.

Nevertheless, one of the posters from 4chan appears to be offended by our claim that some of the posts there are fake and posted the following plot details that actually match with what Kyle said and what Jason Ward from MSW shared further below. Here’s a direct quote.

(thanks to Cantina member Willibobo for sending me this)

(Beware, there are even bigger SPOILERS ahead)

>Luke brought a cataclysm to Tatooine soon after Return of the Jedi after he visited Anakin’s birthplace and for whatever reasons it’s changed him. It’s an even more desolate place now, there are meteor craters everywhere, you get the point, at first you won’t know that it’s even the Tatooine you’re looking at.

>Luke goes mad because he discovers he f***ing can’t control himself. He destroys everything around and kills people with his powers, unconsciously. He leaves his friends and lives in solitude on Mon Cal in a fortress of some f*** old sith lord because the dark side that clouds the place puts him in chains.

Luke

>Luke is now a Yoda + Paul Atreides, he f***ing sees the future, sees the past (that’s why the “flashback” scenes were filmed) and he’s basically a mentally unstable god.

>Nobody wants to have anything to do with him, but Han’s son (Adam Driver) wants to use Luke’s power for his own evil means.

So, last act of the movie (spoiler, but you’re going to read it anyway):

>Luke has a premonition about the destruction that Han’s kid will bring in the future and decides to kill him.

>Han is obviously mad as f*** at Luke.

>There’s a huge fight. It’s everyone vs Luke (Luke has his father’s red lightsaber here, so it’s obviously visually implied that he’s the bad guy). This fight is epic as f***.

>”But Luke isn’t the villain! But everybody thinks he is! Oh no, such a twist! Such darkness! It’s like ESB all again!”

>Han kills Luke, because Luke allows him to, “he trusts him”.

The second part of this sounds a bit too much. I personally have a strong reason to believe that this might not be too accurate but only time will tell.

Luke

And finally here’s a very interesting read posted by MSW almost together with the above article that does support part of the above rumors. The post is about the state of Luke in the movie that provides greater context to his appearance in this scene, and it highlights the essentials of his character arc in the film. One particular note is that he has stated that he believes he was mistaken about his previous speculation regarding Luke, and that what he has learned since then paints a much clearer picture of the character and the movie as a whole.

Here’s an excerpt of their story. For the full article visit MSW.

Luke Skywalker has become the most powerful Jedi ever, but he doesn’t believe he’s the wisest. He doesn’t want to make the mistake his father made by thinking he knows what’s right for the universe. Skywalker becomes somewhat deranged in his seclusion. He is consumed by his fear that if he should return to “society” his power could be misused, he could be manipulated, and he may accidentally hurt the one’s he loves.

For these reasons, to protect the galaxy and himself, Luke retreats into self-imposed exile for many years. I’m told he can’t always control the power. While he sits in a meditative state, he levitates things unconsciously and he’s not always in complete control and he’s never sure if he’s doing the will of the Force or acting on his own passions. Luke is seeing the past, the present, the future, “old friends long gone” and other things that prey upon his sanity.

You can definitely see the connection between these 3 stories. Actually the first and the third are a bit different, but the middle one serves like a bridge between the two. I also like that in all 3 pieces there is no word on the rumor that Luke is a cyborg in Episode VII. Since day one when that cyborg image leaked from Indie Revolver we’ve been saying that Luke is not a cyborg in Episode VII and that no major character will actually be. That’s what our source told us back then and we still stand behind his words.

Insane Jedi

Finally, we have a few words about the content of the rumor itself. You may or may not have noticed that this description of Luke Skywalker’s character bears a strikingly familiar resemblance to one many already know. In the Timothy Zahn trilogy of books from the 1990’s, known as “The Thrawn Trilogy,” we were introduced to a character named Joruus C’baoth. To quote Wookieepedia quoting Luke Skywalker from “Heir to the Empire”:

“But I really don’t think he’s a Dark Jedi. He’s erratic and moody, but he doesn’t have the sort of evil aura about him that I could sense in Vader and the Emperor. I think it’s more likely that Master C’baoth is insane.”

This character — a powerful and insane Jedi — seems to be what we’re potentially going to see in Episode VII. However, instead of being a clone of a dead Jedi this character is embodied in Luke Skywalker. Now, I can already hear the sound of a millions voices screaming as one, “THE EU IS DEAD!!!” Yes, of course, you are correct. The old EU is dead and will be over-written, but Simon Kinberg (for one) has told us already that the old EU is still fertile ground for cherry-picking concepts, ideas, characters, designs what-have-you:

“It’s certainly not off limits, it’s certainly inspiring. I’m working on an animated show for them as well [in] ‘Star Wars Rebels’ that will take inspiration from everywhere, but I know for the movies the canon is the canon and the canon is the six films that exist.”

In fact, the treatments for the Sequel Trilogy were written by George Lucas himself, so he could easily have merged a powerful future Luke with the character of this insane Jedi Joruus C’baoth, which is extremely intriguing. That said, all the usual caveats and salts apply. Let us know what you think about this potentiality either in the comments section or in The Cantina.

P.S. Special thanks to Echo-07 and Pomojema who also contributed to this article. As always these are just rumors. There’s no such thing as “something is set in stone” with this movie at this point. Even if something is legit, it may not end up in the movie. So treat everything with the proper amount of sodium chloride. Actually I really like the huge diversity of rumors from the last few months. It really makes the whole situation more confusing and contradictory. And that’s where the fun is. I really hope that still there will be many surprises in store for us on December 18, 2015.

No wonder Mark Hamill shaved off those beard, Luke became a Force Ghost after getting killed.

Actually I also scroll thru but happened to read ‘Han kills Luke’ and because ‘he trusted him’.

Whichever it is, I am looking forward to Ep7. C3PO did say its gonna be better than Empire. I wonder if he meant its going to be a far darker movie?

Bear in mind that this is from the same website that said that Luke would turn into a Force blob at the end of the movie. Take what 4chan has to say with a grain of salt.

I think both Luke and Han will have this effect. its part of the reason I don’t think they die in VII. The whole movie forever more becomes the death of X. Nothing else in it or its story matter, only the death of X.

I doubt he is going to die, I strongly believe that one member of the original trio is going to be killed in each movie.

And it will probably be Han in the first movie, Leia in the Second, and Luke in the last.

Either that or they will all be killed in the first movie but that would be too off putting.

If they kill Luke already in the first movie, that’s probably going to be the last SW movie I’ll see in cinemas. It would devaluate the OT to a degree that I can’t accept. So let’s keep our fingers crossed that Luke survives or at least gets the heroic death he deserves.

No, the entire prequels didn’t have Luke. It’s not just about Luke Skywalker, but all the Skywalker’s! I still believe that Daisy Ridley is Han and Leia’s daughter who they hid for some reason. I also believe that Adam Driver is Han and Leia’s son too. (Jaina and Jason type storyline?) Not that those are the character names but the influence from the EU feels very strong to me. Also this would follow the Skywalker family idea.

It would be interesting if they could keep the true nature of Driver’s character secret and it is crazy Luke that reveals the truth that he is the masked Force user villain.

Didn’t Vaders saber fall down the shaft in ROTJ when Luke chopped his hand off?

    • November 7, 2014 at 1:33 am

Precisely, but Vader may have had another one somewhere else. Maybe an apprentices saber or something lying around in his quarters elsewhere. Empirial City? Coruscant?

And technically he had more than one saber, at least in the real world. I believe the TESB or ROTJ saber was a converted Luke-Anakin saber because the original was lost and so it looked a little different. That said, it wouldn’t make much sense to retroactively have Vader with a second saber lying around somewhere. Maybe Luke makes one like his father’s, or that part just isn’t true?

NO to Luke being evil and NO to him dying. He’s the hero of Star Wars, and they should not mess with that.

    • November 7, 2014 at 4:23 pm
      Permalink

The report doesn’t say he is evil. It says the opposite. And Luke is the hero of the OT, not the Saga. The point of the ST was always to pass on the Saga to the next generation. Though I agree that he shouldn’t – and likely won’t – die in the first film. It is too predictable and we all want to see him train the next hero (and not just as a Force Ghost).
I love the idea of him being a little nuts after self imposed isolation and having uncontrollable Force powers that need to be “chained” by staying in a Dark Side enriched environment. The idea of seeing “crazy old wizard” Luke unconsciously levitating things around him and having Force visions is just too cool! He has become “The Son of the Suns” as he was originally meant to.

The second part sounds WAY too reminiscent of the Expanded Universe with Han’s son being the “Bad Guy” as for the first part we can’t be too sure but I’m very skeptical of the second part, I can’t see that being true.

Somehow I feel that Luke may have become powerful, may have hermit-ed himself, but I don’t see him turning against Han or anyone good. Nor do I see him dying in Ep 7. It’s too early for that, we’re still getting back into the swing of STAR WARS movies. Usually the ‘darker’ ones are not the first (ie ANH and TPM).

I don’t think Luke turns against Han, but Han is trying to protect his son against his crazy old friend who disappeared on him and Leia many years ago and is now talking about taking out their son. If we don’t know that Driver is the villain, Han and the audience will think Luke is evil or insane until the truth is revealed. I think that is very powerful and gives Ford some great tension to play.

Does this rumor go with or against the idea that Luke was around 20/25 years after RotJ?

Wouldn’t it make more sense for Luke to kill Han causing Driver’s character to slide even further to the dark side and revenge (ep 8) and therefore causing the very disaster that Luke sees in his visions? Very Greek tragedy if you ask me. Just a thought.

Yes, I think Luke survives and Han dies. Luke will restart the Jedi Order to combat the Sith and continue on through at least one more movie. Adam Driver will become a Vader-like figure in the future films.

But that would make Luke virtually irredeemable to most people, including me. Han isn’t evil, so this wouldn’t work at all. It is also a horrible (as in horribly written) end to their great friendship. There is such a thing as too dark.

I really believe they will try to paint a narrative of the force not being so black and white (or dark and light rather) as was seen in the OT and PT; as taught by the Jedi Council. That there is much gray. Some force users will be pure evil, some pure good but most will be combo of the two. Similar to how Game of Thrones has characters that seem really bad but have good qualities and vice versa. Perhaps culminating at the end of the trilogy with a new Jedi order and different philosophy of the force.

  • November 7, 2014 at 1:11 am

I find it very hard to believe that Luke is hidden for the majority of the film, then will crop up near the end, to then get killed off.. I believe that he will gain control of himself and the force once again and save the day, and then in episode 8 he can train the new hero to become a jedi. I’m still holding out on a duel with Luke and the villain. Would be so epic to see him fling around his ROTJ lightsaber once again. I believe that if there is a death, it will be Han, and/or possibly Leia will die in the middle of the film. Leia is my favourite character so I will absolutely die if she dies, but I suppose they could get a lot of storytelling potential if she is killed off. I could imagine it’s by this rumoured political opponent supposedly played by Lupita Nyongo. A political assassination of sorts so Lupita takes Leia’s place. That would pull some heartstrings. Michael Arndt after all wrote the first draft and I remember watching him speak somewhere where he said it’s good to put characters death in the middle act so it’s a sudden surprise and blow for the audience, instead of making it an obvious climax for the end of the film, plus we all know JJ’s obsession with surprises.

    • November 7, 2014 at 1:35 am
      Permalink

If Leia dies in the middle In some political assassination, it gives Han a reason to stop piloting a Super Star Destroyer, quit the New Republic, and go search out her brother with their son.

But man what a feck ing depressing film that could be. I thought JJ promised promised to bring back the fun and innocence. All these rumors are way way too goth. SW is at it best when best when the line between good and evil is black and white.

They love Star Wars and make their parents buy the merchandise because of Leia. I wouldn’t take my 7-year-old niece to view Ep VII if the princess gets killed.

I think our ‘villain’ may be proficient in using ‘The Force that Awakens’. Could be that it’s a more powerful and almost omnipotent Force that is separate from but interacts with ‘the force as we know it’ – a dark side force so dangerous that it threatens the galaxy perhaps?
Hence The Force Awakens and The Ancient Fear!

Hopefully his going missing will involve a tragedy that drives him to despair and there is a search for him because his help is needed to fight against a more traditional ‘dark’ villain who’s so powerful and dangerous that ‘they’ threaten the galaxy.

These are an obvious load because… Well it should be obvious.

The people who “leaked” them are describing character emotions and motivations that they cannot possibly know without having read teh script or watched more of the movie.

But they are acting like they have only seen the scene while it was being filmed. How could you possibly know the motivations of Han’s son from this scene?

or lightsaber color if you were only watching it filmed?

We dont even know how many special effects are done yet…

Similiar leaks probably come from people hearing about other leaks, or extrapolating their own ideas based on what they see.

These leaks just dont makea lot of sense when read out loud.

    Okay, here’s my thought.

What if Han and Leia had kids and Luke had a premonition that one of their kids would become a Jedi and bring destruction.

Luke believes that if he goes into hiding that he could alter this possibility. But he loses his grip and health in solitude, meanwhile Adam Driver finds his way to Luke anyway when searching with Han.

The title makes me think of Merlin in Arthurian legend.
In the story of Arthur, Merlin is captured by helen mirren and put in the medieval version of carbonite. Merlin remains frozen for the foreseeable future.
    However:
At a key point the Spirit of Merlin Awakens, and manages to roam free of his body, thus his icy prison, allowing him to interfere with the reasoning of Mordred (sort of a medieval Reverse-luke), tricking him into killing Helen Mirren/Morgan le fay
Merlin is still imprisoned forever, but he is still a key-player via his waking Spirit (I knew there was something familiar about Obi-wan’s story!!!)

Not saying that’s what JJ’s doing, but I’m getting the feeling of the force being asleep or dormant to some degree, and then spontaneously springing to action in ways more powerful than we can imagine.

I believe all these ‘rumors’ are false info, Abrams employed a team of six people before production even began to establish connections ‘in the community’ (writers, etc.) and feed false info throughout the process. Given that amount of effort towards keeping details secret and the waters muddied so to speak, I can’t imagine this much info would legitimately get leaked, at least true plot details.

Also does no one see the contradiction in these rumors? If Luke is all powerful how could anyone challenge him? Especially some upstart Sith?

Also… how could whoever is leaking possibly know all of this stuff? They are phrasing it like they were watching it being filmed.

But they are talking about stuff you oculdnt see being filmed, like moving mountains, seeing future, seeing past…

even the simplest things like the color of lightsabers.

So Driver is Han’s son… he was the first newbie cast in the movie.

That leaves him, Boyega and Daisy as the trio of young leads if this pans out.

So Domnhall Gleeson is not a lead. We haven’t heard jack shit about him, so not surprising.

I hate to be pessimist, but I find the idea of crazy Luke and his possible “death” a sacrilege to Star Wars and the OT. Almost all the rumors are bizarre, and I really don’t like the direction they seem to take the movie in. Mark Hamill is still young, he is in shape and has a lot to offer for the next installments. Many fans had always dreamt with the chance of watching an experient Master Luke as the leader of a new generation of Jedis. And not a FORCE GHOST. So please, if any of the producers are reading this, DO NOT kill Luke Skywalker. Generations of fans are gonna thank you. Let Luke Skywalker live through the whole Saga!

Campbell’s “Hero’s Journey” predicts exactly what is going to happen to Luke. At the end of Return of the Jedi, he achieved mastery. But due to his power and the possibility of falling into evil, the hero imposes self-exile until a time comes when he is needed to achieve a great task.

Lucas followed Campbell’s Hero religiously; Abrams and Kasdan will do the same for the sake continuity. Most likely Luke will “pass on what he has learned” at the end of the film, thereby setting the stage for a new group of heroes.

However, it’s important to note Lucas’ description of the Star Wars saga: he said it’s more or less “a story about a family.” Obviously, this means the Skywalkers; so there’s no guarantee that there isn’t a Skywalker among the new heroes. To me, what’s interesting is how Abrams and Kasdan will tie this together.

Finally, as for my two cents of what the film should’ve been called: “The Resurrection of the Force”

You know, I don’t really get why the image of Luke and Han described above leads people to believe they are having a stand off. We know Luke is in turmoil so it’s not beyond the bounds of possibility that he initially doesn’t recognize Han or simply doesn’t like visitors. Maybe Driver has taken Han to Luke and Luke’s initial reaction to their arrival is defensive? He ignites his sabre and Han draws his blaster, both on instinct. Then there’s an awkward pause, a flash of recognition in Luke’s eyes and Han remarks, “Hell, kid. For a moment there I thought I was gonna have to take you down!”

Nice ironic set-up for later, when Han does take Luke down– only at Luke’s request and very reluctantly: “Han, you have to do this. Trust me, I will return. And more powerful than you can possibly imagine…”

This is an excerpt from Joseph Campbell’s ”Hero With a Thousand Faces’ which Lucas drew heavily from, and Kasdan and Abrams surely consulted.

Campbell: “The hero may have to be brought back from his supernatural adventure by assistance from without. That is to say, the world may have to come and get him. For the bliss of the deep abode is not lightly abandoned in favor of the self-scattering of the wakened state. ‘Who having cast off the world,’ we read, ‘would desire to return again? He would be only there.’ And yet, in so far as one is alive, life will call. Society is jealous of those who remain away from it, and will come knocking at the door. If the hero. . . is unwilling, the disturber suffers an ugly shock; but on the other hand, if the summoned one is only delayed—sealed in by the beatitude of the state of perfect being (which resembles death)—an apparent rescue is effected, and the adventurer returns.”

Sounds perfectly reasonably, and fits in with Luke going into self-imposed exile. However, let’s use some common sense. No insanity claims, rather a harrowing personal tragedy which he can’t deal with emotionally, and so hides away from reality and the ‘world’.

Luke will not die. It’s the other way around.
There is a fight at the end. Luke wants to kill Driver and Han steps in. Luke then kills Han which brings Luke back to his sanity. Han with his dying words begs Luke to let Driver live, to trust him that everything will be alright and the he won’t succumb to the Dark Side.
Luke trust Han and does not kill Driver – which will be a big mistake as we will see in Episodes VIII and IX.

      Another thing:
The artwork with the cyborg holding Vaders helmet in his hands is pretty accurate. This is the end of the movie.
Luke beats Driver up pretty good in the fight. He has a scar in his face and his right hand will be cut off by Luke.
After the funeral of Han, Driver will be in Lukes quarters, wearing a mask and a robe and he holds Vaders helmet in his cyborg hand, eyes blazing…

        Or another thing:

The setting is on an all rock/stone/cave planet. Luke is standing on one side of this open, rocky plain. Han is standing across from him. Adam’s character is standing in the middle of them, confused and worried, for he has been contacted by this evil Sith spririt and it has been tempting him to come to the Dark Side. This same spirit has also entered Luke’s mind, possessing the elderly Jedi Master from time to time, making Luke a deadly, killing machine when that happens. Han is the first to speak.

Han: Luke, buddy. Please don’t make me do this. You’re my friend. I… I can’t hurt you.
Luke: Han I…. I’m not the same little farm boy you once knew. I am a grand Jedi master with uncontrollable powers. I’m dangerous. I’m corrupt. I… *something clicks inside him. He seems to become suddenly possessed* I must kill you.
        Han: *visably hurt* Luke….

Luke draws and ignites his green lightsaber. Han sighs and pulls out his blaster. Han knows he doesn’t really stand a chance against Luke. He hopes, despite his age, that he has at least some agility left in him. Luke charges towards Han with a cry. Luke gets closer to Han who is just standing there. When Luke is about to strike Han down, Han quickly evades Luke’s blow, resulting in Luka cutting the ground. Han then takes a shot at Luke, who, sensing this, blocks the blaster with his hand. With a growl, Luke turns to Han, enraged. Han takes a few steps back and prepares to fire again but Luke then, unexpectedly, starts Force-choking Han. He then throws Han on the ground. Adam’s character is watching this and is horrified.

Adam’s Character (assuming he is Han’s son): DAD!!!

Adam runs towards Han but is quickly pushed back by Luke. He groans as he, slowly, pushes himself off the ground. He sees Luke heading towards his father again, Luke’s lightsaber at his side. *changing P.O.V.* Luke heads towards Han. Han is now standing, but hunched over and is clutching his side. He notices Luke walking, but slowly starting to run, towards him. Han takes several shots at Luke. Luke blocks these shots with his lightsaber. Just as he is getting closer to Han, Luke pauses as he comes back to his senses, taking a quick notice of what he is doing. Han doesn’t know why Luke has stopped charging towards him but he takes this opportunity to shoot Luke, making the old Jedi fall back. Han lunges towards Luke and grabs his neck, choking his friend. Luke tries to choke out Han’s name, but Luke becomes re-possessed and hits Han in the gut with his elbo. Han now clutches himself in pain. All the while Adam’s character is just watching all of these events unfold in shock and horror. Luke now kicks Han making him fall onto his back. With a loud cry and his lightsaber, now ignited above his head, Luke stabs Han in the gut. Adam’s character cries out…

        Adam: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

Luke pulls out his lightsaber from inside of Han. He comes back to his senses once again. He slowly starts to realize that he just stabbed his best friend. Luke drops his lightsaber on the ground and falls to his knees beside Han, who is struggling to breath. Luke holds onto Han (similar to the way Obi-Wan held Qui-Gon in “The Phantom Menace”).

        Luke: Han. Han. Han, I’m so sorry. I didn’t- I didn’t know, I… I don’t know what happened. I…. *sighs* I….
Han: *struggling to talk and breath*: Luke, just do me… One favor.
Luke: *on the verge of tears* Yes, Han. Anything.
Han: Please…. take care of my son.
Luke: Of course, Han. Wait, no. You can’t leave! Please! Please don’t!
Han: And… tell Leia I…. love her
Luke: Han, please, listen to me. Don’t go. You’re gonna make it. I’ll, I’ll get you to a medical frigate…
        Han: Luke…
        Luke: They-They’ll heal you…
        Han: Luke…
        Luke: No, I’ll heal you…
        Han: *straining* Luke!
        Luke: What is it?
        Han: My time has come…
        Luke: No.
Han: There’s nothing you can do..
        Luke: But…
Han: And even if you could, my time was coming to an end anyway. I knew… that this would happen soon.
        Luke: No.
Han: You have to accept this.
Luke: NO! I won’t lose you, Han!
Han: Luke… *starts to cough* this is a part of life. Change… Is life. You need to accept that.
Luke: *is starting to shed some tears* But I don’t like change!
        Han: Luke….
        Luke: Yes?
Han: May the Force be with you…..

In that moment, Han closes his eyes, never to open them again.

Luke: Han? Han? *starts to shake Han a bit* Han! Han, please, no! Han… *starts to cry*

Meanwhile, Adams character was standing close to, but yet still far away from, Luke and Han, watching his father die. Adam, ignoring Luke’s pleas for Han to awaken, is immediately filled with rage and sorrow. Adam picks up Luke’s lightsaber and ignites it. Adam raises it over his head, prepared to strike Luke down. Luke senses this and quickly stands and turns around and blasts Adam’s character with a both a powerful Force repulse and push. Adam’s character is thrown against a wall of complete, solid rock, getting knocked out. Luke then looks back down at his friend’s body. He sighs and sheds a single tear. He picks up Han’s lifeless body and walks away.

The scene fades into another one showing Luke landing on Dagobah. That scene fades into another one showing Luke placing Han on an alter. The scene fades into another, showing Luke standing by the alter, and then lighting it on fire with his mind. The next scene shows Luke sitting on the edge of a small, grassy, mossy cliff crying***. Then, hours later (in movie time), Luke stands up and walks away. Now, the scene fades to black. But then it looks like someone’s eye’s are opening. We then see Adam’s character groaning, holding onto his head.

        Adam: What happened?
Mysterious Male Voice: I healed you.
        Adam: From what?
        Mysterious Male Voice: Near death.
        Adam: What!
Mysterious Male Voice: That so-called “Jedi” master Luke Skywalker injured you.
Adam: You… You’re right. He did!
Mysterious Male Voice: He even killed your father.
Adam: *rage filling him once more* He did.
Mysterious Male Voice: And what are you going to do about it? Let it slip past you like wind? Or are you going to avenge you fathers death and hunt down that blasted, fake Jedi?

A lightsaber appears in Adam’s hands. Adam slowly clutches on to the weapon and stands up.

Adam: I will have my revenge.

Adam (since he was looking down) slowly starts to tilt his head up. His eye color has turned from brown to red and yellow. The camera slowly (ish) panels out. We hear Adam’s character laughing evilly, with his arms and hand outstretched to the side of him. The sky then becomes dark with lighting, as we see the Lightning is actually connected to Adam. The screen fades to black and the credits role with whatever music they decide to use at the end. 🙂 The end.

***Alternate version: As Luke is sitting on the cliff, he opens up his hand to look at the lightsaber he’s holding. Sighing and returning the grip he held on the weapon, he slowly stands up and turns his back to the water and rocks that lay below him. Igniting his lightsaber and facing it towards himself, Luke stabs himself out of guilt. The shock from the stab makes Luke fall off the cliff and to his death.

I am also liking the idea of Luke killing Han as a mishandling of the force. This would setup Adam’s character to jump head first into the dark side to destroy Luke. Totally alienating Luke from the others at first.

“Luke brought a cataclysm to Tatooine soon after Return of the Jedi after he visited Anakin’s birthplace and for whatever reasons it’s changed him.”
Anakin wasnt born there was he?

I don’t think there is a cannon answer to that in the films. Also, the person could just be assuming it was his birthplace rather than just the slave quarters.
The bigger question is why and how does it “change him?”

There is a cannon answer after all.

PADME: How long have you been here?

ANAKIN: Since I was very little, three, I think. My Mom and I were sold to Gardulla the Hutt, but she lost us, betting on the Podraces.

That doesn’t mean Anakin wasn’t born on Tatooine. It only means that he came to Watto’s junkyard when he was three, after being lost to him by Gardulla the Hutt.

He could’ve been born on Mos Eisley, Anchorhead, Bestine or any other Tatooine settlement, for all we know.

Wrong. That’s YOUR interpretation of the scene, not the facts.

Padmé was not specific. “How long have you been here?” could mean a ton of things: how long have you been on this planet, how long have you been in this town, how long have you been in this junkyard?

Ditto for Anakin. “I came here when I was 3” could mean I came to this planet, I came to this town or I came to this specific junkyard when I was 3.

I’m not gonna make the mistake of taking something like this as fact, when anyone with a functioning brain can clearly see that the question and reply are unclear and open to interpretation.

ETA: I wasn’t referring to his time as a slave (it does seem obvious that he was a slave since birth, because he and Shmi were Gardulla the Hutt’s property). I was specifically speaking about the exchange Anakin and Padmé sustained concerning the question (literally and not open to interpretation): how long have you been *HERE*.

The ending where Luke dies is very sensational sounding. Again another variation of a fake rumor twisted beyond belief. So does Making Star Wars believe it is true? Only PART of it is. The things which don’t add up is the age of Driver’s character as a Solo child. He would be at most 30 years old if he was born following Return of The Jedi or whatever timeline Lucasfilm/Disney decides to make up for this movie. If Driver is playing a Sith apprentice as rumored that of Darth Ruin, then he would be several thousand years old and in no way could he be Solo’s son. Or does he fall to the dark side upon beginning his training as a Jedi in his 20s and secretly takes up the Sith teachings after somehow encountering Ruin’s spirit or another Sith follower in hiding?

The other thing that doesn’t add up is the Jedi are completely extinct in the post Episode 6 era. Luke is rumored to have disappeared for 10 years. In 20 of those prior years did he begin to teach Driver and then detected something was wrong and suddenly decided to stop? This could explain the future vision which troubled him if Driver is essentially another Anakin Skywalker. Luke saw the bleak future if Driver completed his training and went into exile to avoid it from happening.

Driver is probably the rumored wealthy aristocrat who has a (presumably secret) collection of Sith artifacts. So he is not truly a Sith but is probably self-taught and has an affinity for the Force since he is Leia’s son. Perhaps he ends up turning to Sith artifacts/teachings once he realizes his power but becomes frustrated that there is no one around to teach him (Luke hiding, mother busy with affairs of state).

As I am sitting here at work I have been reading this and still wondering, well where does Ridley and Boyega fit into all of this?

If Luke is in hiding and Ridley and Boyega are supposed to be the next generation of heroes against Adam Drivers antagonist character then when would Luke have time to train Daisy or John if he comes out of hiding and dies so soon?

There is no way that Luke will die in Ep7, he would need more than one episode with him training Daisy and John.

Here is my thought process on Ep7.

We are introduced to Driver’s character, based on pictures we have seen he is a pilot for the Alliance against the Empire. (GCW is still ongoing.) And son of Han and Leia. Most likely a squadron leader or officer in order to set up his credability and respect from other members of the alliance.

Han is a General or Admiral (whatever you want to call it) and thus piloting the SSD, while Leia is the Chief of State of the New Republic/Rebel Alliance.

Luke IS in hiding, not sure if I buy the whole catalyst thing, but SOMETHING has changed him to draw him back from everyone. My guess would be on Dagobah in Yoda’s home where he communicates with Yodas force ghost or something along those lines.

Boyega is an Imperial, Stormtrooper/chrome knight, something along those lines. Somehowe he runs off and meets up with Daisy at her At-AT home, something unites them to join the Alliance.

Meanwhile Driver comes in contact with some Sith artifacts, or has had this obsession about his grandfather all along, but he hides it from his parents. Something Driver does triggers a disturbance in the force that Luke feels. Luke goes into the cave on Dagobah and sees a vision of his nephew turning into Darth Vader, or some Dark Side conflict issue, idk.

Luke prepares to leave dagobah to stop his nephew from traveling down the dark side. Only to hit a brick wall with his family. (The insane Jedi story arc goes here)

Somehow Luke meets Daisy and John through this and discovers her/their Force potential, but he refuses to train her/them for fear of not being able to stop them from turning to the darkside.

The Empire then attacks the Alliance, starting a huge battle, Driver’s character does something dark, but allows the alliance a victory over the Empire.(Daisy and Boyega witness this act)

Luke confronts Driver, only to have Han step in to protect his son. Han, being a General/Admiral orders guards to remove Luke, but an altercation ensues resulting in the DEATH OF HAN.

Luke, is deeply saddened at what has happened, Driver orders him to be arrested, only to be rescued by Boyega and Ridley.

As the three flee, Luke realizes that he won’t be able to stop Driver alone and agrees to train Daisy and John. This also leaves Drivers character as the commander of the Rebel Alliance/ New Republic forces, while he is now angered at his uncle, he commits himself to the teachings of the Sith in order to get revenge on Luke.

Luke, Daisy, and John will be forced to turn to the Empire for help in order to stop Driver’s character. (This will be the grey line, with a Sith now in control of the Rebel Alliance/NR, and Luke needing the Empire’s help to stop Driver)

My prediction for ep8 would be Leia’s death at the beginning of the movie with Driver taking complete control of the New Republic (or end of ep7, declaring himself ruler, and completely given over to the darkside, depending on how the events play out) and Luke’s death at the end of ep8.

Ep9 would be Daisy vs Driver

Not necessarily, if Han is there to interfer and distract Luke, Luke would be completely distracted by the death of Han, giving Driver’s character a chance to escape, and in the long run train to become stronger.

I hate to say it, but I’ve kind of seen a lot of this blatantly displayed sexism among commenters here. I followed trekmovie.com for a while in the anticipation of the first JJ trek back in the day and I noticed minimal sexist/racist things blurted out for the fuck or fun of it and certainly not with actual weight and conviction equal to what I’ve seen here. I love both franchises, but trekkies are just more with it. Too bad those movies captured the 1960’s male centric macho ideology and practically non of the forward thinking progressive humanism of something like Voyager. JJ and the writers completely took Star Trek back to square one politically with those two movies. It’s sad to think it would have been so easy to avoid. Like Kirk being called into duty while he’s in the middle of a threeway with two alien chicks. Fuckin A. You kidding me with that? Here’s to hoping for something better than those disasters. I don’t think Kathleen Kennedy would be thrilled with the amount of sexism in SW as was seen in ST. And just to be clear here, I do really appreciate this site and a lot of the discussion! Keep it coming. Keep it in the 21st century 😉 SWVII: I want to believe.

@ Tim Snow, sorry young man but you are wrong on so many levels.

Example A, like others before me have mentioned, Yoda was small and frail, yet kicked butt.

Example B, Shatele Shan, Grand Master of the Jedi Order during the Cold War with the Sith, who went toe to toe with Darth Malgus who was by FAR stronger than her.

and Example C, even though she is apart of the EU, Jaina Solo, who was the Sword of the Jedi of the New Order, and who fought and killed her brother, Darth Caedus. And as many believe, Jaina is more than likely the model of what JJA wants Daisy’s character to be.

Sorry Timmy, but your logic is flawed.

Luke is my all-time favorite Star Wars character, and my childhood hero.

Having said that, I have to say that I love the sound of all of this, EXCEPT for Han killing Luke. Things with this rumor sound so much better than what we were hearing a week or two ago.

The idea of Luke as a cyborg was so disturbing, so unacceptable to me, that it put me off completely.

But that doesn’t mean that I’m not open to seeing Luke struggle with his heritage, the light and the dark, etc. Provided they hold true to Luke’s core, that ultimately, Luke is a hero, I don’t mind the filmmakers doing some new and unexpected things with Luke.

But to be perfectly honest, I don’t want to see Luke die. Period. But if Luke Skywalker must die, I sincerely hope it is not in the first Episode of the new trilogy.

Save it for Episode 9, please!

Or better yet, don’t kill Luke at all.

Mon Calmari is a water based planet according to EU/Legends but we never see it on screen in any movie but the first Clone Wars microseries. However Ackbar’s bio is canon and its mentioned to be water based. No ice, no trees.

Maybe Leia dies in the first act (or in flashback). She is most likely a high political figure

Driver seeks retribution for his mother, Leia’s, death but Luke foresees that helping him will push Driver to the dark side and cause more disaster, so he retreats for answers.

With Luke missing for years, Driver seeks the necessary power to right his mothers death, collecting Jedi artifacts, but along the way he comes across Sith relics that seduce him.

Driver tries to seduce Ridley, promising justice for their mothers death, but he scares her. She seeks out her uncle Luke for help.

I think that Driver will kill Han unintentionally when they finally find Luke. Han will be trying to play peacemaker and sacrifice himself for Luke.

This will push Driver over the edge into dark emotional territory and Ridley will rescue Luke from an impossible situation. Ultimately setting up a cliffhanger where Luke will need to train Ridley to rebalance the force and hopefully save her brother in episode VIII.

Episode VII will be about Han trying to reconnect family, but he will die in his pursuits, but be a hero in the process.

And Leia will come back as a ghost.

What if Luke is so powerful with using the force, and because he can’t control his powers, he inadvertently resurrects an ancient sith villain spirit. Thus, The Force Awakens.

In the meantime, his nephew (Adam Driver), who has always been intrigued by the dark side of the force, gets taken over by the suddenly released ancient evil spirit.

Now Luke is overcome with guilt and has the dilemma, moral choice, of trying to save his nephew or having to kill him for the greater good because he caused the situation.

It could be that they released concept art from earlier drafts of the script, perhaps even Arndt’s. That’d be a great way for them to keep the anxious fans occupied while the real material remains secured in secrecy. My guess is that they’ve had several artists working on concepts from the very beginning of the film’s conception and it’s that art they’ve chosen to leak as a diversion. It’s evident in the countless differences between McQuarrie’s work and the final products seen in the OT. Brilliant!

if luke is killed i wont watch the rest of these films. fucking with characters that have thrilled peoples imaginations for so long is just cheap and would be a terrible mistake. for people of my generation who saw the original trilogy as children these characters are cultural icons and should be left the alone.
