Award wining costume designer Michael Kaplan revealed that his next project will be J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: Episode 7. More details after the jump…
He won accolades for Best Costume Design by the 1983 British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards for his costume design work in Blade Runner, the first theatrically-released film he worked on as costume designer. He went on to become a nominee in the Costume Designers Guild Awards 1999 and the Costume Designers Guild Awards 2005 in the category of Excellence in Costume Design for Film – Contemporary for his costume designs for Fight Club and Mr. & Mrs. Smith, respectively.
Other film projects that Kaplan has worked on are: Flashdance, Seven, The Game, Panic Room, Armageddon, Pearl Harbor, Miami Vice, I Am Legend, J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek, Star Trek: Into Darkness and plenty more.
Recently Buzzfeed spoke with the designer and asked him about his next project. Here’s what he had to say:
Buzzfeed: So will you be switching up and maybe picking a period drama for your next film [after Star Trek]? What’s coming up next?
Michael Kaplan: Well, I’ve just learned I’ll be working on the new Star Wars movie, again with J.J. Everything just got formalized [last week], I haven’t even had the chance to talk to anyone about it all other than to be told ‘welcome aboard.’ It’s a little too soon to know exactly what’s in store but I’m excited, absolutely, to get to work on another prestigious sci-fi series.”
